If you can't follow directions, then you will be stuck with the T-Mobile firmware, which is out of date.
If you are gaming on a wireless network and wonder why your ping is higher than it should be.... that's why.
To use the ethernet backhaul you need to connect the ethernet cable on a LAN port of router 1 and connect it to the WAN port of router 2. It has to be done this way or the backhaul won't be used properly.
.
While inside of the RT-AC68U router's login click the AiMesh Node that you have connected. Then on the right side of the screen it will show the node and how many clients are connected to it. Click that. A new pop up appears. Click the tiny link (its hard to see at first) that says "More Config". Then you will see drop down arrows. Change "connection priority" to Ethernet. Connection type will be listed as WIRED. If it doesn't say wired that means that your ethernet cable is not connected to the WAN of router 2 (and the opposite end to the LAN of router 1).

A converted RT-AC68U did an update before fixing the mtd5 partition which reverted it back to a Tmo.
Either way, they both end up with TM AC1900 firmware results which is locked to downgrade.
IF you have issues doing the Bayareatechpros Guide, you see at the bottom part of Bayarea Guide. Then you click the Direct Google Docs Link..

It can be confusing on words like Inspect, Console, Diagnose and when/how to do that.
* When it comes to the instructions:
- WEB Server Instructions
Step 4 explains about the commands and how to get to them, it can be confusing where it says to:
validForm = function(){document.form.SystemCmd.value = "ping\necho hello world";return true;}
Now press the Diagnose button, and you should see the output from the command "hello world".
validForm = function(){document.form.SystemCmd.value = "ping\necho hello world";return true;}
Press enter, then click Diagnose button, as a test to see if you get "hello world"
...Then it continues to talk about you running further commands (because the above one was a 'test')
---------- so the photos help you understand how to do this.-----
* NOTE, If you get what I mean on the above WEB Instruction, you will understand the other two Instructions below.
I am repeating myself now, because the "Step #" has changed. So to be EXACT, I am listing it again per other two steps below.

Then it continues to talk about you running further commands which is now a "Step 5" this time.

Which ever method / Google Document INSTRUCTION you chose, you see how it works by the photos.
I know the google document is confusing also on the parts it says STEP 1 STEP 2 then Step 2.. that needs to be corrected... but the author did not give anyone permissions to change it so I had to email him to have mod rights to do so.. For now you understand in my post above when you need to type the command and how to get to the area to do so.
Anyway, that is besides the point.
Remember, this Google document guide found at Bayareatechpros Guide is IF you simply can not get the Bayareatechpros Guide instructions to work... being hung up on the 1703 downgrade.
Simply put, the newer firmware lock you from doing so and that is the 'go around ' guide.
EDIT; 1/20
There is now a reported error in "Sploit's Guide" So, confirmed.. take my advice and don't use 'his ' guide.. use the one bayareatechpros says to use , google doc one. Pictures still can be used as reference.
If you have no idea what this post is talking about. lucky you
T-Mobile did give these out on loan. (rarely, for free ) A $25 deposit was put down for one, if you were a T-Mobile customer. When you decided not to be a customer and / or not return the cellspot router TM-AC1900, you would get a $100 charge added onto your bill.
So $25 deposit, $100 no return fee. So they weren't free.
T-Mobile also offered a different (cellspot) it was smaller then this.. and wasn't as good for a long range router.
The Firmware for the TM-AC1900 cellspots hid certain features in the User Interface of the router. The Firmware wouldn't get quck enough updates either. I don't even see firmware to use on ASUS website for the TM-AC1900's anymore.
Flashing back to a RT-AC68U (Because that is what this is, a re-branded RT-AC68U) will allow normal ASUS RT-AC68U firmware on it giving you more recent security.
Mine has been solid and I am getting better coverage for some devices, but I will say I am lacking in knowledge to know when the main router would have off connection to the node to be able to notice any drops in coverage. I haven't noticed any issues though, very happy with that $40 purchase.
I would be extremely upset if I paid full price for my setup, but since I got the T-Mobile price, I'm content with the Media Bridge functionality.

How do I reach out to them.
How do I reach out to them.
IF you order went through, you will see a phone number on one of those junk emails.
You would need an order number which also would be in one of those junk emails.
If all else fails, contact the phone number that is shown on the See Deal of this thread 1-800-T-MOBILE
I believe the wait time for the cellspot is 7 business days.
How do I reach out to them.
I bought one on a previous deal, and I have been using it without issue. I bought this one in the hopes of getting AImesh set up on them, and putting the node in the basement.
So I successfully flashed to 3.0.0.4.384_20308, and I was going to duplicate the settings of my current router into this one so I can update my older one to an AImesh capable firmware without taking the whole network offline for a period of time.
I now see that I have hit a roadblock. My current router was flashed with 380.69 of DDWRT-MERLIN. I have been using this for a while now, and I now realize that part of the reason that I was using Merlin was the custom DNS filtering feature under AIprotection. I use this to assign different filtering levels to different computers on the network (I have a subscription to cleanbrowsing.org and I can point them to different dns addresses according to their mac addresses).
This might be a dealbreaker, as it seems that this feature is exclusive to Merlin.
Is there another way to do an AImesh-like configuration with two routers and keep Merlin (perhaps an updated version)?

If Merlin supports AiMesh, why don't you have them both on Merlin? or use the latest Asus firmware (Version 3.0.0.4.384.45149 [asus.com]).
I don't remember if 3.0.0.4.384_20308 is AiMesh compatible.(I don't remember the notes).
You can always Hardwire them together if need, if no one else helps you with that AiMesh problem.

Thanks. Merlin doesn't have aimesh, so I am going down a new path and looking to just use the new router as a Merlin repeater. Gotta do some more research here to see what my options are now.
I did put the latest Merlin on my original router now.

Not sure if it helps, but I ordered mine on the 24th and got it today (28th).
