Speaking as someone who owns one, I can tell you that there is a lot of use.

For example...are you one of those families that buys fresh fruit? And do you find yourself making regular contributions to the garbage because not enough of the fruit was eaten?
I can tell you that this was the case for my house. What I found is that when I see the fruit getting ripe, I sliced it up and dehydrated it. It virtually eliminated all fresh fruit waste in my house. In fact, I have come to realize that people in my house seem to prefer the dehydrated fruit for snacks.

Banana chips are a particular favorite.

Somebody touched on the beef jerky. I concur. Soak the beef in Dale's marinade overnight and then dehydrate. It makes awesome jerky.

I even used this to speed up the drying of my son's pinewood derby car.

My family goes nuts for fruit leather which I make in this.

And these are just a few examples. This machine gets a lot of use in my house. It may be just behind the microwave, coffee pot and toaster oven when it comes to use.

Got mine ordered. This is $122 less than when I put on my wishlist, so I had to bite.

I got it on a last deal for $191 like 9 months ago. For some time I felt like it wasn't a great purchase. The dry fruits were great, but still I felt like the price I paid for it wasn't worth it. It is just yesterday I made my first jerky, ground beef. Wow! Now I know it is worth every penny.
So it depends what you need it for. Jerky is a perfect "on the go" food and it is so expensive to buy. So to me, right there it is worth it. And it is $20 less than I ever saw it offered.

In my experience, ground beef is easier on the mouth too, vs. regular beef jerky. And it's usually easier to prep (no slicing)

Great unit, I love mine. Had it for years. I make tons of jerky and got tired of cheap units failing on me. This thing is built to last.
