Ordered, thanks OP! I've been on the hunt for a great projector deal.

This deal is from B&H, so a certified Epson dealer and also has a mail-in rebate from Epson for a free replacement projector lamp (~$250 value).

No tax to CA! Repped.

Consistently one of the highest rated projectors, although a couple years old now: https://www.projectorcentral.com/...review.htm

2500lmns and 1080p. Why is this a good deal? My $400 Optoma has better brightness and the same resolution for less than a quarter of the cost. Probably better input lag too.

Edit: I see now that it's faux4, so fine, but still seems pretty dim. Seems like there are better deals around for similar specs. Same price on Amazon too BTW.
Basic Spec's are nothing when it comes to projectors. Some of the best out there are that are $8k have 2000 lumens or less.

I've been looking for a deal on this projector, I may wait a bit longer though for sub $2k.

This projector is widely considered one of the best projectors under $3k. The dynamic iris creates deep blacks and high contrast.

That's like asking why a LG oled costs more than a $500 lcd when the lcd is also 4k and can probably also get brighter.

Good price on the projector but I'm wondering if it'll drop more with the 5050 announcement hopefully coming soon.

I guess not. Projector central says it's really over 3.5k lbs, despite its rating.

Right on. I might wait awhile until this gets cheap then pick it up.

I was looking into this one for the motorized lens shift and feature but took a chance on ordering the 4000 series yesterday for $1240. One of the reviews said with a grey screen they are almost comparable. I've had a 8350 for years and was happy with it. The 4000 should be a decent step up.

This projector has been praised highly over the years, but isn't it out dated now?

For those concerned about the lumens: don't. I have one, and it's almost painfully bright when you're viewing an almost purely white image. This is a fantastic projector, easily the best one under $3,000ish.

CES in a couple weeks ought to theoretically drive these prices down.

I haven't kept up with anything Epson cuz usually I don't want to pay the price. but I know there's an LG laser one that's supposed to be announced which should make their weird rectangle Cannon shaped one considerably cheaper than the 2500 it is now. I think the sweet spot price for these older models is going to be in a couple weeks. also it may be worth waiting just to see if these new projectors have the different HDMI standard.

I know personally I'd be pissed if I paid 2000 or 2500 for projector and another comparable model came out for the same price with better future-proofing. But it's y'all's money not mine

Epson is better than optoma. Not just this model but overall. I just got my epson 2045 new locally for $300. I have a $290 grey silver ticket 110" coming in a few days. Epson 3lcd tech is much better than dlp from optoma. its brighter even at a lower brightness rating.

I tested the epson on a wall and its amazing. Size does matter. My 4k lg 70 " va panel with very good black and hdr just cant compete. I will choose the projector over the lg anyday.

You do need a dim to dark room for a projector set up. I only watch movies at night so my regular room is fine with the windows close.

I can tell Optoma is good if your budget and use is limited to what it sells for. Epson is way better when it comes to picture and quality compared to Optoma. I gave up Optoma for Epson.

I own 6030UB for over 4 years and have put in close to 6500hrs on the original bulb it came with. Absolutely no degrade in picture quality. I kept 2 spares in anticipation not to miss a weekend for bulb going bad. Never had to change the bulb. Runs atleast 200 days a year and certain times not turned off all thru the weekend. That paid off value it's worth. Atleast my experience with Epson customer support and service team has been fantastic.

So far it's been perfect for my use case: entry level projector for an entry level projector user. Low input lag for gaming although I'd love a rig that could run better than 60hz (just built a htpc for movies/gaming. 60hz 1080p is child's play for my 2070). I've been keeping my eye out for a 4k rig for a good price but I'm not in any hurry. If something like this one goes on a steep, clearance type sale I'll probably pick one up. Otherwise I'll just enjoy my homebuilt 143" screen and call it a day.
