Similar racks (holding 600#) are $125 at home depot for those who only need 1 or dont have a costco membership. The hook accessories are not included, though.

my god man...
pilot holes, ALWAYS pilot holes for lags...

you should be able to drive lags into 2x material with a ratchet, by hand, if you've drilled the proper size pilot hole. if you're just driving them in blind with an impact, you're hurting the wood and compromising the integrity of your joist.

It took me maybe three hours to install the two, and just needed help at the end holding down the frame as I used a rubber mallet to seat the pieces. Not difficult, just lots of remeasuring...

It's not that hard, but better to have a spotter at times. I had a cousin come down there install my 4x8 overhead. One tip, make sure you have joists in the area where you are planning to hang the shelf

I installed in a little over 2 hours for one. The second one will probably take less than half as long.

Inside the box came a number you can call for local installers. You can use this link as well: https://www.saferacks.com/locate-...taller.php

Thank you, I bought these the last time they were on sale. I got the set with the largest drop down, then ended up installing both of the "shelf" parts onto one "rack" So I have two ~ 22" shelves to put totes on. It worked out pretty well.

My install was pretty easy with the exception of finding garage ceiling joists through the drywall (my issue), and one step that has you space out the the L shaped ceiling support brackets, I wasn't sure if the measurement in the manual for front to back spacing between the brackets was for the edge of the part that is flush with the ceiling, or for the L side that hangs down a bit. Whichever one I used was the wrong one, and my hanging brackets were slightly wider on the ceiling than they were at the shelf. Since I put two shelves on one rack, I had to redo this part which took extra time.

I had the exact same problem. One of my brackets is 1/2 inch too far in the ceiling. I left it that way so that it triggers my OCD convulsions every time I see it.

EXACT same thing happened to me, and what I did to figure it all out, instead of following the instructions, was to fully assemble the rack on the ground and then put up ONLY ONE of the ceiling joist brackets, I then utilized multiple plastic shelves I had laying around to set the assembled rack on top of, shimmed it to a proper height and bolted it down to the first ceiling bracket. Since the SafeRack was completely built and in the air, I was able to eyeball the remaining brackets because the assembled SafeRack was only 1/2" below the ceiling.

If I remember correctly, the 48 1/2" / 96 1/2" figure they give for between the brackets is for the parts that the vertical bars bolt to, not the part of the ceiling bracket that bolts to the ceiling. I could only figure this out by building it on the ground and measuring it, nowhere in their instructions or on their YouTube video is it mentioned.

I would have left mine that way, as it was only a little bit off as well, but it seemed to be making it bind so I moved the original 1st bracket out from the wall an extra inch, and then mounted the second bracket after I had the entire shelf in the air to where I could eyeball it. After all of the pieces are hammered into their keyhole slots, its not going to get any more straight/square than that, so I relied on that to be right and it worked out.

After having attempted and failed at installing this on the day before Christmas and then successfully getting it installed a few days after Christmas and sitting back and looking at it holding all of my storage containers, it strikes me as weird that this thing can supposedly hold 800lbs but is only being attached to the structure of my house with 4 small bolts. I would never imagine in 1000 years that it would fail at the bracket attached to multiple joists, but it seems like that amount of weight would be more than enough to sheer the 4 small bolts that handle the entire load of the SafeRack.....Anyone else feel similar and care to ease my worried mind? I have a very small garage and would have significant damage to my car if this thing were to ever fail.

I believe it's rated at 600 pounds, and you are right screws and bolts typically don't have much shear strength (compared to say a nail, which will give vs break). However bolts are very strong with tensile strength which is what these fasteners use. The pressure is on the end of the bolt pushing down (tensile), vs on the side of the bolt pushing down -- i.e. if these mounted to a wall vs a ceiling (shear).

I don't think I follow. The bolts that attach the SafeRack to the 4 brackets that are in 2 joists each attach horizontally, not vertically so it would appear to me that all of the weight is literally on the shaft of the bolt (sheer) and not on the head.

In this picture, you can clearly see the 4 top-most bolts I am speaking of and see that they are horizontal and not vertical. I hope I am just misunderstanding and what you say is correct.
