I have a general mistrust of these guys. Somehow, they will disappoint. They'll be short-dated, or it will 7x of the crappiest variety...something.

Good price but in my experience when they get this cheap, they are just about to expire. Do they specify what the expiration date is?

Says 1-3 year shelf life. I've heard of people eating these things 10, 20 years later and saying they were good

oh man! This brings up "fond" memories of my military days (especially during op desert storm <--majority of what we ate were these)
1st the Positive?
If you need to be constipated, get these.
No mention if dehydrated fruit packs are included, but these ARE the best (especially when you add a little water.
easy to load in your backpack and or car.
now negative- They taste nasty I mean really bad. The crackers are tasteless and generally seem stale (even when date shows recent)
Did i mention constipation?
We had a name for these mre = Mystery

These have been floating around for years. The reduced sodium MREs. I think they were made for hurricane relief. They have less components than real MREs and the same brown sugar pop tart with every meal. They could be had for 2 dollars a pop in any quantity you wanted a couple years ago. I'm sure these are that exact same stock.

The MREs when I was in the Army were mostly versions of Beef (trackpad, meatballs, etc) in red sauce and disgusting. Also some stews. M&Ms were prized, and normally old enuff to be white inside. Some nasty versions of pressed pound cakes too.

Near the end of my service MREs improved and had some variety, not too bad really.

In most cases any MREs will be good for 5-10 years easy possibly longer if not damaged. This is not true with all of them, but generally the food cannot "go bad" it just won't taste as fresh or good, and in most cases these don't taste good anyway. But when you are truly hungry taste is not a concern.

For you old timers...yes the old MREs were questionable. Ham slice and frankfurters were some of my faves in the late 90s. The new MREs these days are a big improvement. The menus have gotten more diverse, including Hispanic and Asian meals and this makes for better trading around the camp. I wish they could solve the problem with the tortillas though... they get creases and break. Still, they get the job when called upon.

As a veteran You couldn't pay me to eat this trash again. But this is very slick, they went for about $8 to $10 a piece at the commissary or PX back in the day.
