Nope i gave up. i had 1 in the basement and 1 in the garage, wired connection for both(no wifi hop). Either my rokus would connect to the 'far" one, and get poor performance, or like you it would randomly drop for a few seconds as it decided on the fly which ap to connect to.

I just went back to having "basement" and "garage" IDs, and had both programmed into phones/notebooks.
I think that's a better way to go since you have two access points each hardwired. Though dunno if it perhaps might be worth trying to keep both SSIDs the same to have seamless handoff.

Why? Go Merlin

I'd say go with AdvancedTomato, which I've read is based off Shibby (which I've used for years). I just recently tried it and the UI overhaul is pretty nice

Worked on Chrome desktop. Firefox, explorer - no go. Just got payment confirmation from cc. Will report back if it gets cancelled.

I bought this the last time and it's more than good enough for our needs. It's set up in AP mode with a Circle device for parental controls attached to it. Works flawlessly. Getting this to create a mesh

No, it isn't the case. This is just a regular router with special firmware which will PRIORITIZE VOIP packets. (QOS Prioritization)
If your phone does not have WIFI calling feature, it won't work with this router. IF your phone DOES have WIFI calling feature, then it SHOULD prioritize the packet such that you won't have dropped calls, etc. Once flashed, it becomes regular router without any special handling of VOIP packet.
I think you're possibly thinking of a different device. This actually allows the wifi calling. There are many instances in this thread verifying the same.

Prioritizing VOIP packets makes no sense. The bandwidth needed is so tiny that it would be pointless.

Have this under Ddwrt firmware for more than 2 years, hardly have any issue. Best bang of the buck router out there until we get some real Ax router with decent price.

Only downside is the process to flash firmware which is not for beginner.

I'm the only Internet user at my home, and run stock ROM on this. Is there any reason to change the firmware? I never have any speed issues when streaming, downloading, etc.

But my TM-branded phone can already make and receive WiFi calls on my non-TM-branded router, so what's special about this firmware in that respect? Does it do a better job than non-TM-branded routers of automatically switching between cellular and WiFi calling and if so does it do this within or between calls?
When this was released a few years ago,i dont think all routers were "allowed" or "certified" to do tmo wifi calling. I might be wrong on that though. If nothing else tmo used to give these away to people with poor cell reception so it makes sense to brand and "streamline" tmo equipment for tmo customer usage.

edit i also think tmo firmware prioritized voip packets via qos by default, so customers did t have to enable it, and again years ago qos was not a given on commodity consumer routers

Chrome 70 on Win 10, showed in stock and successfully ordered one just now.

1) Like everyone else, the order is pending a "review" and either a call or an email. There's also a "Don't want to wait? Call us..." number on the bottom of the confirmation page. Whaddya think, should I call them?

2) I would like to have two of three of these to play around with the mesh-iness. I only ordered one... could I have ordered multiple, assuming the code would only take $10 off the entire order, or should I go crank open another browser with a different email and credit card and order a second one right now?

Has anyone gotten the mesh to work without WiFi stability issues? I'm on the latest Asus firmware and my wifi drops for a few seconds sometimes. I'm running two ac1900 converted to ac68u
I never could, it kept dropping on me, even if it was hardwired backhaul...I ended up putting merlin back on it and the ad block built in
