At least in my area and some of the cities I've traveled to, Red Pocket is much better. I've had way too many problems with
Mint. MMS not working, missed calls, spotty coverage, etc.

You won't be able to use this to extend your service, this will be for a new number.
My recommendation is use Google voice (GV) for your main number and just forward your Mint number to GV. On Android you can even originate calls from your GV number, so everyone only sees your GV number in caller ID.
When your 90 days of Mint is up, just discard this Mint number and get an entirely new number, then set up a new forward in GV.
In the last 8 years, I have probably had 20 carrier numbers,hopping from promo to promo, but everyone only needs to know GV number, which has stayed constant.
