Has anyone been able to activate the digital version? I've tried calling them and they told me that since my print subscription was redeemed through Airline Miles, thus it does not have a complimentary Digital access.

Called multiple times. Received similar response.

Post #22 describes how I was able to get my digital subscription activated. I was also able to get the free Times of London digital subscription.

When you call to activate your account you need to tell them you are just need to set up the online account so you can control your print subscription (vacation holds, missing papers, etc). Again this was a couple of months back so perhaps things have changed.

I had setup my online account before calling them to activate digital subscription. I have been trying for 2 months without success. Print subscription redeemed through miles does not have a complimentary digital access. In their system, it shows that I paid $1 for subscription.

I don't know about other airlines, but was easier to just go through American's site to redeem my AA miles. There's a link under redeeming AA miles for Miles for Mags. No credit card or anything else required.

I ordered it and got nothing but excuses why I am not getting it. They got my miles but I'm sitting here with nothing, zip, zero, nada. Mags for miles just stopped answering my emails.

I did this offer a month or so ago, received my WSJ delivery pretty quick. The miles haven't been removed from my airline miles account.

Just thought I would chime in here with some good news for those who got these freeish subscriptions and are trying to get digital access. I too signed up for the paper last month using some expiring miles (~3k) for a year and just started getting the paper delivery yesterday. No account number or anything on it, and was unable to link it to my wsj/dowjones account (which just had generic "free" access).

Called the support number and was unable to find my subscription via phone number. Eventually got a CSR who gave me the account number and added my phone/email to subscription profile. Using the account number, tried to add it to my online account. Not sure why, and I assume it was because of the free nature of the subscription, but the system kept erroring out. It found the subscription when I tried to link it, and had me verify my email/phone, but kept giving me an error saying I needed to contact customer service.

Called back into the support number. Tried using my phone number (which I knew was linked) but it said unable to find subscription. Weird. Put in my account number and it said "Your account requires you speak to a customer service representative" or something like that. I spoke to another rep and explained my issue. He confirmed some information, found my online account, and then did some stuff on the back end (something about reactiving the online account and getting it linked).

Long story short, within a couple minutes I received a welcome email to WSJ, and now when I logged in I could see my active subscription (exp 11/1/2020). It shows full access rights (print, online, tablet, mobile), and allows me to manage it (suspend, change address, etc.). I used those credentials to login to the WSJ IOS app, and I have full access there as well.

So for anyone else who mainly cares about the online version, it CAN be done.

Personally, outside of maybe the weekend edition, I wish I could just stop the print version from being delivered as it's a waste. Not sure if suspending my delivery indefinitely would cause issues so I'll just leave it alone for now.

Anyway, just thought I would share this in case others are trying to get it done. If people are running into road blocks, maybe instead of trying to talk the CSR into activating a digital subscription, just ask them to link it to your online account so you can manage it that way in case you go on vacation, etc.

If you want fewer headaches, you check eBay and find lots of sellers of WSJ subscriptions at cheap prices, often for several years. They work, as my digital has been active for nearly five years and I paid less than $50 for it. You can get combined print and digital for under $100 a year, print only for under $70.
