This one may prove slick if you've got a old Fire TV device sitting in a drawer because it's too slow to do anything anymore. Amazon is offering a 20% off coupon code for trading in an older streaming media player (Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV).

Right now, the Fire TV 4K and Fire TV Cube are showing full list price, so the 20% off isn't terribly slick today. However, the coupon code is good until May 31st - so odds are good these will go on sale again. In reading through the terms, I don't see any restriction on applying the coupon to a sale price. If the stick drops to $35 again, the 20% off should drop that to $28.

What struck me about this one is that the 1st Gen Fire TV and Fire TV Stick are on the page listed for trade in. I've not seen those up for consideration before, so this looks like a chance to finally get rid of that old stick.

This trade in is a joke unless you can keep the coupon until they go on sale and stack them. You already save that 20% when they go on sale.

I have an old fire stick 1st gen that I would trade in if they would do something like give you a $10 amazon gift card. But no, they want to give you $0.99 and a 20% coupon on a fire tv device with inflated prices.

I would have to disagree. I've had every gen FireTV. From 1st gen stick to FireTV cube. The first 2 gen FireTV sticks were slow, but none of the others have been. I am currently using 2 4k pendants and Cube. They are not slow at all. I also have latest roku ultra as a comparison. FireTV is at least as fast loading as the Roku with a better looking interface. Just my 2 cents.

The following are part of this deal's terms, so I think we would be able to use the coupon while it's on sale, if it comes on sale before the coupon expires, but they might intentionally not put them on sale, so I don't know if it's worth it. I'd like to upgrade my 1st gen stick, but I don't really want to put much money toward it (I much prefer my Roku players).

It says it can't be combined with other offers, just with gift cards so I am guessing you can't use the coupon even if they go on sale.

New ones are so much faster. Almost on par with the original beast of a fire tv. New remotes are great.

I think that may mean just special promotions and not include regular sales, however, they could make that clearer.

I always like to throw this in to the small population interested. The new 4k firestick runs HDHomerun live TV better than any other device I have tried (Gen 1, Pendant, Cube).

All of their other % off trade-in deals work with sale prices. For instance, I traded in a broken Fire device and was able to take 25% and when they had the HD 8 on sale for $49.99 ($30 off) I was able to take 25% off the $49.99 price.

The one time it didn't work was when the new 4K stick was just released and the offer was to get the new one for $29.99 when I traded in a 1st gen Chromecast. I waited a few weeks until Black Friday week to see if it would take $20 off the sale price of $34.99 but it didn't. It just reduced it down to $29.99.

So % off + sale discount = yes
Lower price + sale discount = no

The original FireTVs are the best. I have one and My friend has the 2nd gen Fire TV. My 1st gen Fire TV works much smoother and is more compatible with emulators and controllers.
