For what you get. Heater tank light hood. Price is pretty nice. Tho those filters I really hate. They try to get you on replacement filters. Shove a big piece of foam in there and maybe some filter floss to polish the water and you'll never have to buy cartridges ever.

Get a sponge filter that's what all the fish stores use for each aquarium. 2 small sponge filters are better than 1 larger sponge filter because you can clean them at separate times to keep good bacteria.

I've been purchasing filters for the little 3 1/2 gallon I picked up at Petsmart for $5.00 a pop. Just ordered the whole tank and kit for $15.00!!! I think the filter pump is getting weak anyway so now I'll have a spare everything along with new filters.SmilieSmilie

I don't think so. The included filter provides required aeration

Thanks OP, I needed a small tank to separate the cory catfish eggs from the tiger barbs that keep eating them. The eggs need good circulation too making it hard to protect them in my main tank... either they are eaten or fungus grows on them.

I always did because I like the effect and I think more aeration is better if you have multiple fish in such a small tank.

Would it be better to get in on a $1 per gallon and get a better filter?
