If you currently have any kind of Saphire personal card that is active, you will NOTqualify for bonus points, even if you are approved.
If you close your Saphire card recently, you will need to wait 48 months from the date you received the previous Saphire bonus before applying to get the new card's bonus points.
Be careful not to waste a hard credit pull Smilie

Chase T&C:
"The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months. If you are an existing Sapphire customer and would like this product, please call the number on the back of your card to see if you are eligible for a product change. You will not receive the new cardmember bonus if you change products."
95 af is not waived for first year basically previously it was 50k with 95 waived first year now it's 60k with 95 af so pretty much the same
Also I'll get csr rather than csp if you spend 3400+ in travel, dining etc
It is pretty straightforward. When you use your card for ANY travel purchase (like Airbnb, airfare, hotels, Lyft, Uber, parking, some tolls, and many others), you will automatically be reimbursed, until you've spent a total of $300 on travel. In other words, Chase will pay for the first $300 in travel you spend each year with your card.

Im curious if they offer these perks with any debit card, so that the student doesnt deal with credit approvals

Not Chase. The Chase line as a whole is about those with "established credit history".

Look over at Capital One. Not as many perks but it will establish your credit to move up.

There are several good YouTube videos on the very topic. Students, those establishing credit, improving credit.

There are actually dosens of websites that provide comparisons. Just not sure which ones to look for as probably most of them are paid to write what they write.

Most of the YouTube video on CC's and such are very transparent. They openly admit if you like the content and want to apply, to use one of their affiliate links. It doesn't make the information wrong.

But you do you. This thread is about Chase cards. And if you are as you say a student with low income and a "thin" (short/low) credit or credit history, Chase is likely not for you. It's not an insult or indictment. Chase is going after a certain market. The CFP is issued with a minimum of $5,000 credit. The CSR a minimum of $10,000 credit. If your situation is such you would not qualify for those kinds of credit lines, then you wouldn't be approved.

I'll also stand by my earlier comment. If your not a frequent traveler, the CSP or CSR is not for you. Unless you want to get the sign up offEr then downgrade to the CFU or CF. But even then, there are likely better cash back cards and those Chase cards have better value for travel.

Ideally, you would go to Discover or Capital one (or others) that have products that while not offering a lot of benefits, help build, establish, improve your credit. Than at a later time, try Chase (or Amex or Citi) if you want to "play the points".

I received this e-mail right now:

Your bonus offer is extended
(for accounts opened from 1/1/2020 through 3/31/2020)
As we all adjust to the impacts of COVID-19, we want to make sure you have enough time to earn the new account bonus on your Chase Sapphire Preferred Card that you opened on February 3, 2020.

That's why we're extending the time for you to earn your bonus by 3 months — so you now have a total of 6 months from your account opening date to earn your new account bonus.
There's nothing you need to do to activate this extension – it's automatic.

Please stay safe and, as always, thank you for being our customer.

Just got an email that the 3 months to spend 4000 has been extended to 6 months. Opened account on 3/25. Now I don't have to rush to spend the 4k.

Difficult to travel and use the Chase Sapphire card when the world is shut down. Chase refused my request for an extension for the account I opened 2 weeks ago. I may have to consider dropping the card.

Extension for what?

And if you close the account, you lose your points. If the AF is to much right now you can try to downgrade. Least you keep the points. I'm not sure on how soon you can downgrade.

Chase doesn't appear to be sensitive to new clients two weeks. The world is shutdown. I can't use the card to plan a trip. Chase rejected my request for more time to earn points. Still thinking of settling my bill and dropping the card.
I can afford the FICO score hit.
Do they prorate the annual fee?
I will look into stepping down to another Chase card
Thanks...

I'm still not sure what you mean. I don't know if any restrictions for earning points. If your paying bills, buying groceries, etc you are earning points. Far as I know, those points don't expire so long as Card is active.

I believe if you cancel card within 30 days they will refund your AF. Otherwise it is prorated. But that is just based on what had happened to other people. Not sure that is published policy.
