Still haven't gotten the $150 Slickdeals rebate from the AMEX card deal from a month back...
Vanguard money market is about 2.49% or so currently. Places like Cit bank is around 2.45%. Other places have 2.3-2.4%ish accounts. Purepoint has a no-penalty CD at 2.6%

But with 20K to play with, you may be better off doing the bank bonus game -- Discover/Capital One/HSBC checking/Citi and so on.
I checked our system and your approval is showing up on 3/8. You should receive payment by early next week.

Vanguard just stole 20 mil from investors

Is there a bank bonus game for broke individuals that don't require huge deposits?

I noticed BofA and Chase have somewhat doable terms but only if ACH transfers meet the direct deposit requirements for the bonus.

Insight anyone?

This exactly. I've never had a worse banking experience than I've had with HSBC, and it's not even close.

I just tried to open an account with HSBC and my application was declined as they were unable to verify your source of initial deposit required to open your account. I called them and found out that they will not be able to accept initial deposit from credit unions!!!!! This is height of stupidity!!! They should have atleast mentioned it somewhere about this. They are asking me to start a new application with source of initial deposit from a Bank!!!! Guys, dont even open an account with HSBC!! They are the worst bank I have ever come across!!!

So, they dont have same set of rules for all the applications!!!???? I dont know. In fact, I had HSBC account few years back that I have closed after few months. I always use my Credit Union account for initial deposit and I never had issues at that time!!???

FYI~ I used my NFCU and I was approved, I had to use my LOGIN info though to prove that I am the account owner. Once approved I changed my NFCU password right away.

Applied, declined.

I forgot to temporarily lift my credit freezes so maybe that was the issue. Will try again in a few after a temporary credit thaw.

If that was the issue, banks should tell you which credit bureaus they use and remind people to unfreeze those during the application process. Generally, everyone should have a credit freeze at all times unless specifically opening new accounts.

EDIT: that indeed was the issue. thawed my credit freeze for the day and applied again and it went through without a hitch.
