Still haven't gotten the $150 Slickdeals rebate from the AMEX card deal from a month back...
Vanguard money market is about 2.49% or so currently. Places like Cit bank is around 2.45%. Other places have 2.3-2.4%ish accounts. Purepoint has a no-penalty CD at 2.6%

But with 20K to play with, you may be better off doing the bank bonus game -- Discover/Capital One/HSBC checking/Citi and so on.
I checked our system and your approval is showing up on 3/8. You should receive payment by early next week.

Watch Dirty Money on Netflix.

HSBC paid a $1.9 billion fine in 2012 to avoid prosecution for allowing at least $881 million in proceeds from the sale of illegal drugs. In addition to facilitating money laundering by drug cartels, evidence was found of HSBC moving money for Saudi banks tied to terrorist groups.

What information is shared between HSBC and slickdeals?

Basically, I expected there to be some kind of fineprint in this thread but not seeing it.

When you had the $100 bonus I signed up for the HSBC account for the bonus. I filled out the form and emailed [email protected] with my HSBC confirmation email, than I was told to email back in two weeks. I did and I haven't heard anything in a week! Than I tried calling your customer service number twice only to be told that you don't handle the rebate and than that I had the wrong number at 800--286-9146. It shouldn't take this much effort to get an emailed answered or to get a confirmation that I'm getting the bonus I'm owed!

The best part :

Drug cartels and HBSC quite literally worked together to make the openings on teller windows perfectly sized for the boxes the cartels were dropping money off in.

Waste of time, this is what my application ended with:

"We're writing to let you know your application for a new HSBC Direct Savings account was declined because we're unable to verify the identity of the applicant. "

Took a month to even get that. Never had a problem with identity verification before. Nothing was good enough for them.

I applied for an account in the last thread and submitted rebate after application was approved. But during the 3 days it took for the account to open the last thread was closed. So I've submitted again with this form. We'll see what happens...

There are a ton of better options than HSBC if hunting for higher rates. But the reason to do this is for the bonus. And all it takes is like a $1(or whatever the min. is) to open.

The issues apparently are the signup, and then getting slickdeals to pay people. If anyone out there is planning to do the HSBC checking promo as well, I suggest signing up for that first, it might make opening the direct savings easier. Well, not less time consuming and annoying... I just mean that HSBC might not have so many weird identity verification problems that way. Maybe.
