Still haven't gotten the $150 Slickdeals rebate from the AMEX card deal from a month back...
Vanguard money market is about 2.49% or so currently. Places like Cit bank is around 2.45%. Other places have 2.3-2.4%ish accounts. Purepoint has a no-penalty CD at 2.6%
But with 20K to play with, you may be better off doing the bank bonus game -- Discover/Capital One/HSBC checking/Citi and so on.
I checked our system and your approval is showing up on 3/8. You should receive payment by early next week.

Apply yesterday afternoon. They make 2 initial test deposits this morning. And I verify those deposits this afternoon. Still waiting for approval. Hopefully I will get approved and my account get funded tomorrow. So that I can submit the slickdeal cashback form.
"Thank you for your interest. Your application was declined as we were unable to verify your source of initial deposit required to open your account."
Unfroze my credit files. Don't see a number or email to dispute this. HSBC has a reputation for horrible customer service so not sure that I want to call unless someone has a workaround. Thanks.
I had an account with them about a dozen years ago. I closed it after about 6 months of trying unsuccessfully to set up online banking. At that time they would mail you a letter with a code that expired in a few days. They did not understand living on a college campus delayed mail delivery. I see they have progressed a bit but have not gotten easier to work with... Enter your birthdate? Two different passwords?
Account is open, and I'm happy about the impending bonus, but I doubt this account is going to the forefront.
Not really. I applied for HSBC Checking couple weeks ago and was approved right away so I'm not sure what's taking that long this time.
Well my experience last year was totally opposite - it sat pending approval for 2 weeks. When I tried to call to find out status, the phone system was hell and nobody was able to help. So if you get approved right away, then great. Otherwise, don't bother. Your time and aggravation are not worth $125. I only tried last year since the bonus was like $300 or something...
I don't see why not. And since you have been a customer, you may even have an easier time signing up for it... might only take like a week or so to get approved.
Just be prepared for a signup that feels like you are applying for a top secret job with high level security clearance.
This. I already have checking and Credit Card accounts with HSBC and it STILL took over a week to get the email and even longer for the initial deposit to go through. I am also very dubious about SD even sending me the bonus, but what the hell I figured I'd give it a shot. Worst case I still earn 2.2 % for 6 months on my $500 then close the account.

It took me about 2-3 weeks to get approved. And I also had a checking and cd account already. Most online banks take about 10 seconds to set up and approve an account. Time is measured in seconds, not days or weeks.
I'm not sure if the requirements have changed, but I don't think there is a min. for the direct savings acct. I just transferred over a mighty $2 and it still worked.
Where are external account transfers in the mobile app? I could find them after digging around a bit on the PC site, but don't see them in the app. Very clunky UI.
I wish I could just use Google Authenticator instead of their stupid app. Because I opted in for enhanced security I now have to use a password in the app to get a key to enter into the site with a 2nd password and birthdate to login to my account.
My credit union handles this 10x better than HSBC. They need to go back to the drawing board with their security, website and app.

Typical HSBC - very slow and poor service. Much better ways to earn bonus are with US-based banks...
