Hi swtezang3l
How are you evaluating these?
Note - here's a day time capture which should in theory be close to what you'd see with these cameras ( ipcamtalk has more also in the reviews, look for the Dahua IPC-HxD48xx models to compare with ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ_Rnfeimn8
Mat, what would be the difference between $80 LaView 4MP Turret Dome from this thread, and lets say Inesun 5MP Mini PTZ POE IP Camera Super HD 2592x1944 4X Optical Zoom IP66 Waterproof 120ft IR Night Vision Outdoor (also $80 on aliexpress, plus has zoom etc):

In general avoid random branded products from Chinese vendors.
Why:
There's a lot of less than perfect products coming out from China - especially if there is a software aspect. Even the tier-1 OEMs are not doing as well on their quality of software as I like, eventually they will get better.
Remember even the bigger brands in the IoT and security camera space from China seem to still be behind US and EU companies in terms of software development / lifecycle - often leaving vast number of insecure products connected to the internet. Thus why protecting the equipment from Random internet attacks is good. ( use a VPN service running on your router if you want to access the camera feed from outside of your home )
Software is an important part of all of these systems - so if you stick with market leaders you are typically better off as they have more software developers and there are more customers sharing what they learn from the products.
Thank you for your comments mat2000! Sorry for the late reply. I noticed there are two styles of turrets, do you have a recommendation on which one is better? Trying to purchase for my home, and plan to have about 8 cameras, so obviously, the lower cost would be nice but I don't want to regret it down the road, but also don't want to overdo it at the same time.

Hi Danko,
Not certain which exact type of turrets you are thinking of.
So I'll answer based on what I see often brought up at ipcamtalk
Turret style cameras - typically you see it in fixed lens ( 2.8mm, 3.6mm,... - 3.6mm is better imho as the FOV is not too wide and thus ID distance is reasonable ) and variable lens / varifocal lens - which allows a custom FOV and thus "zoom" - that is you can customize the ID distance.
In general - I would get both types, and use the varifocal lens models on the front of the house to get enough pixels to the start of your driveway or your mailbox on the street ( if you have a curb side mailbox ) or to the street where you may park, and use the 3.6mm lens on places a 90 degree ( approx, based on some Dahua models ) would be fine. ( say covering your back yard ).

I was referring to the two different types of turrets in my original post that I linked. One has a square IR light, the other one has a round IR light with audio.

Hi danko,
Ah...
So the LaView "Saturn", the one with the round IR - is a Dahua OEM model.
The other LaView turret, the one with the Square IR - is a Hikision OEM model.
Think of this as Nissan pickup truck vs Toyota pickup truck, to someone who is not that into trucks - they basically look the same... of course, what also matters is what is under the hood, and both OEMs make versions with standard transmissions and automatic, 4 cylinder, maybe 6 cylinder,... etc.
So now that you can recognize the cases of different OEMs that LaView carries, do check the specs to see what is under the hood.

Try using a Dahua model number for a 8MP IP camera.. something like IPC-HxW48xx
( x = what ever .. )
