No subscription required. I'm using the custom device handler, instructions here: https://github.com/brbeaird/SmartThings_MyQ. No issues with it so far. I did install an independent tilt sensor to team with it per the instructions.
I have a Liftmaster gate controller and a Liftmaster Garage Door opener. The "pay for IFTTT" thing made me so mad that I bypassed their internet service and installed a third party device.

Also available at Walmart. Great deal, an additional sensor alone retails for $40. Keep in mind, no Alexa support and IFTTT requires a paid membership.

"Linking your myQ account to Google Assistant and IFTTT requires a $1 monthly or $10 annual subscription fee."

Still great price and gadget

You can make it work with Alexa via smartthings if you have it. However I didn't pursue this as I didn't really want my garage door to be able to open via alexa. It works great through the Myq app or smartthings app though.

I installed this last year and so far have been please with it. The install is straight forward. I especially like how it notifies me every time the garage opens and closes when someone is coming home and the duration how long it's been opened or closed. However there have been a few times when I try to close the door via the app but it times out. I'd have to close, re open the app then try again. I believe this is because our indoor WiFi router isn't that great and the signal isn't strong at times. Overall at this price I think it's good deal and would buy again if I had to

I've had one for years and passed it around . Set up can be easy or it can take some time. It all depends on your wifi. Over all it's easy to use. I've also had the Genie Aladdin which has more customized notifications than MyQ. For instance you can set Aladdin to tell you if the garage has been left open for more than 30 mins. The MyQ doesn't have this option only if it's open or closed. Over all great to have if you forget to close your garage door or if your unsure if you closed your garage door.
