what if you purchase this but do not install it right away? Would ComEd charge me back the instant rebate amount? I already have Ecobee3 but would be great to have a backup in case it fails.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure ComEd has no way in knowing if you ever install them.

Someone else please confirm.

They will never know. I am a property manager so I buy a ton of these just to stockpile. Don't really like nest but the no battery feature is great.
