Republic Wireless offers to pay annually for 10 times the monthly price.
Unlimited domestic calls and SMS is $15 per month.
Each GB of data are $5 so phone + 1 GB is $20 per month or $200 per year.

With taxes it came at $231.72 for my wife and $208.57 for me (i have a discount as I have been with republic since the beginning)

Only gotchas are:
  • Make sure you plan on staying with them for a year as it's non-refundable. New customers are signed on the monthly price for a month to make sure they keep it before being offered to switch to yearly payment.
  • Figure out how many GB per month you need. you can add GB any time for $5 valid within the month but if you want to get 2 GB per month and pay 20 instead of 24 GB , you must decide before signing up. Not sure it's possible to adjust the monthly GB after signing up to yearly payment.
I am typically at home or at work, so i manage with 1 GB per month. My daughter can eat through 1 GB in a day on spotify and youtube.

Same situation as you, really is a no brainier for anyone with the 10% discount. I'm never going to transfer that number to preserve the discount. 210 for me after taxes, killer.

Republic Wireless is a MVNO which uses both T-Mobile and Sprint as carriers, both have poor signal strength in my subdivision so have to skip this deal. It's SIM does enable Wifi calling on eligible phones but then again I do not have reliable cell service as backup in case broadband is down.

Ever heard of Mint Mobile $180/year (comes out to $15/mont, 4g of 4g lte, unlimited thereafter)? Way better deal. Calling Australia, China, Mexico, and otheres directly, included too.

Opposite experience for me: cell service works fine most places except in the office and people have difficulty placing or receiving calls on their cell phone.
With republic I have no issues in the office as calls are router through internet.
I could even use it in the middle the sequoia forest over wifi through hugues net satellite internet service.
It is even supposed to hand over gracefully when wifi is not available and transition in-call to cell data service. And back.

I just switched off republic wireless after using them for 5 years. A couple reasons for the change. When we first started and i think it was strictly on sprint we had no issues and had excellent coverage all over WI. About 2 years ago something changed and its been spotty. Not enough to leave our $10 a month plan no data(which no longer exists), $25 for both me and my wife with taxes. We jumped on that google pixel deal and decided to give google fi a try and our service is much better. I'm guessing its back on the sprint network. Eventually im going to give twigby a try but I wanted to use google fi for the summer to really put it to the test in remote areas of WI. The wifi thing works great for me since i work at home and im near wifi 90% of the time.
