Kiva - Make a $25 loan, get a $25 Loan credit from Paypal

+13 Deal Score

Kiva is a microlending site where you can give small ($25) loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries. When the loans are paid back, you can reloan the same funds out again to someone else.

Until tomorrow, PayPal is matching $25 loans with a $25 credit to your Kiva account, allowing you to make two loans for the price of one. Smilie

You don't earn a return. This is a form of charity to help small businesses who otherwise cannot obtain loans: https://www.kiva.org/about/how

Yea I did some research. It's not a charity actually, 97% of the people got their money back. You dont earn interest and it's better that way. Once again, great idea

As others have said, Kiva isn't a platform to make money. Use other services like Trine or Bondora for that. Just be aware that these types of lending services usually have huge risk attached, even if they polish the websites to look nice and shiny. Smilie

This is not a hot deal. SD needs to create a separate forum for this stuff. Call it something like Charity Deals.

Think of it as you're getting a deal on feeling like you are helping make a person's life better.

This is an incredible deal. it's basically a 2 for 1 short term lender loan (that you're lending to someone else). They some times find donors to match donations, but it's a big deal to be able to help people and have your money make double impact. You may not "get" something out of this, but this is still absolutely a deal.

F paypal with their double fees if a buyer returns an item. Literally screw over all sellers.

Kiva is not a charity guys. Looks in detail before jumping into it. The idea you lend like 25$ for someone you choose and the borrower will give back to you the 25$ plus a very high interest payed to Field Partner (microfinance institution on the ground that Kiva has partnered with - - more than 30% interest rate on average). My advise is to choose other company with zero or very low interest rate to the borrower.
I made a mistake last year giving my money to kiva. Will never do it again.

I have been lending on Kiva for years. You do not make money as it is a charitable cause. I started with an initial investment of $300 in loan money and have loaned out over $3500 so far with those same funds..recycling the $$ over and over again for different loans. My current funds available is around $290, so only a small portion of my loans over 5+ years have not been paid back. It's a great cause.

the repayments from the credit go back to paypal ...
Paypal would have anyway invested these as part of their "social responsibilities" but with this "gimmick" they get others to "match" their investment.
But they got my $25 as i see Kiva as a platform to help others , so thats that...
