This is correct. Tracfone is only for light users. With Google Hangouts and WiFi, one can still can get a lot done with this plan.

All depends on your usage. personally I use most of my data on wifi so I would rather have 3 GB to use over a year instead of 250 mb a month where I might only use 100 mb one month and the next I need 1 GB for traveling.

A dumb question: If I buy two of them, will it stack ? Will I get 1 year expiration with 2400/2400/ 6GB ? Or will I get 2400/2400/6GB 2 years expiration ?
TIA

This is the first time I've heard of red pocket, Been a TracFone user for years but looking for something that has a little bit more data to it is a red pocket good? Thanks
The Net10 annual plan at 5GB a month is looking pretty good, thinking for switching from Tracfone to Net10 and I've been with Tracfone for a long long time.

I guess I'm old too. Cracks me up when I get into the elevator at work and everyone is looking at their phone. I'm sure some is business, but it's usually Facebook.
Amen. It's not just the elevator, waiting in line, walking down the street, at the doctor's office, sitting in the car, everywhere. People can't do anything without breaking out their phone.

Does tracfone still sell a 1 year extension card? I was 50 or 60 dollars before.
It is, or at least used to be but I haven't tried it in a while, an add on option when buying on their website, and yes it was $50 I believe. This would certainly be the better deal as its more than just the service days, you get the talk/text/ and data for that same price. Unless of course changing sims would somehow negate something you already have (like TMFL) I guess.

There seem to be a few very knowledgeable Tracfone (and other MVNO's) folks on here so hoping with some help on what I wish to do.

I have a brand new unlocked, never activated, Moto X4 sitting here. I am a current Tracfone Customer on AT&T. Unfortunately my only carrier options for my home zip code are AT&T or US Cellular, which really limits my MVNO options. Although I have heard of a few locals "tricking" Verizon, which oddly seems to get better service here, by activating in another zip code 30 miles away, I dont think I want to take that chance. I was considering Google Fi, US Cellular but I think I'd need about 2GB/month so now this NET10 annual plan, $20/month vs. Fi's $40, seem like the better option for me.

I guess my main question is can I just put my current active Tracfone Sim (AT&T) into this unlocked Moto X4 to use for a while longer until I get the Net10 deal, without messing anything up or would it be better to do a Tracfone BYOP SIM (which I already have) to the Moto X4 and then the Net10 sim later on.

Lastly if anyone is aware of any other option I should consider that works on AT&T or US Cellular, I'd be happy to hear it.

Yes! I use my TF AT&T sim in either my Moto G6 or my Iphone, all I do is swap it out (nothing online). That's the beauty of AT&T & T-Mo, the account info for the sim is on the sim (not the imei of the phone like Verizon).

OK great looks like it may take a week or more to get the NeT10 sim kit/plan here, but I want to start using the Moto X today and start getting it set up with Apps and such. So as far as TF is concerned they have no clue what phone I'm actually using. Once I get the NeT10 Sim I'll go through that process. I'm in hopes to be able to transfer my number to NeT10 and my remaining tracfone balances to my son's phone but I know that is another totally different topic and process to go through. Thanks for the help on this an my other post.

In my experience, you should activate whichever SIM gives you the best service. I don't think TracFone policy has changed...they have in the past always requested that the customer enter the zip code where a cellphone will be used, not necessarily the home address. That saves a lot of grief for both parties.

When you port your number to Net10 you will lose your current balance & I don't think you can transfer a balance between phones - I was told just last week that I could merge 2 lines but one number would be lost (haven't tried yet), so that won't work if you want to keep your number.

The thing about zip code is that TF always just shows Verizon for me. I got a couple of the BYOP sim kits & found that AT&T works just as well but TF never provides that option. I've gone to unlocked phones & AT&T so I can move lines around & now have several of the branded Tracfones being used as wifi devices.

I know for sure that you can "merge" two balances, "merge" being the key words vs. "transfer" as I have done that a few times before, In the case of a "merge" you will lose one of the two numbers. I just didn't know if, since it is tracfone and NeT10, essentially the same company if there is a way to do it or if there is some other work around to it like with the exact timing of it all. All I can do I guess is try to chat with a CSR and if I get a good one they might be able to help. If I was talking about even more of a balance I pretty sure I could port my number, immediately reactivate with a new number by buying the cheapest card plan they have and then "merge" my balance, but my balances are not enough that its worth that hassle.

Someone above said service days don't transfer but someone else said that they do. Maybe it depends on which customer service rep you get maybe...

Tracfone does not offer phones (or Sims) in my zipcode for CDMA, only AT&T and literally there are normally like 3 crappy options for phones so I've been doing unlocked phones for a while now. Verizon itself also does not offer service in my area (contract or prepaid), it did up until a year or so ago and then "pulled out" of the area, canceling many peoples plans, it was kind of a big deal in the news and a lot of upset people. Those that managed to stay with them say they still get good coverage and I know of a few people who have gotten new plans, specifically family plans, by signing up with a fake address in a nearby city where they still allow new customers. I have no idea how this would work with tracfone and I dont think I will take that risk. I know for sure that I can not activate a tracfone on verizon here, physically in this location, as I've tried before, even before they started canceling their own customer's plans. It may be possible to drive to another location and activate it but I'm not sure what problems that may lead to and not worth the risk. I believe Verizon uses the US Cellular towers in this area to still provide service to traveling customers and the ones who were able to somehow stay with them.
