They're well insulated so they can maintain 200-800F without fluctuating, even in the winter. It also makes them very fuel efficient. There was a thread on a random grilling forum where they did the math and its cheaper to run these than propane.
You can do an overnight cook without worrying about the temperature. Briskets, boston butts, etc require 10+ hours. You don't want to be babysitting a traditional kettle grill or gas grill for that long. They smoke really well since you just have to toss wood chunks onto the charcoal.
Got my Big Joe II on eBay a few months back for $1599 free ship no tax.
Would buy it again in a heartbeat.
Here you're about $200 less including the $99 shipping, but not including tax.
Atlanta Grill Company is currently running a sale from July 9th to July 15th. Up to $600 off on Kamado Joe grills (varies depending on model) and 15% off all KJ accessories.

They don't charge tax unless you're in Atlanta. Also, the Joe Jr. is only $299 right now if anyone is interested.
Definitely picking up a big joe II. Any accessories you can't live with out. I know out of the box it comes with various items - looking at pizza stone and expand grate

Any accessories you recommend that are not included?
Ah thanks. Still don't understand why they are so expensive. Do they do something special? I am admittedly not a grill aficionado.
