Freedompop as we knew it is no more. The Sprint customers have been sold to Ting and the GSM customers have been sold to Red Pocket. As Ting puts it:

"Upon migration, these subscribers will have the option to accept the Ting offering or cancel or port their service elsewhere."

"The number of subscribers opting to continue their service with Ting will depend, in large part, on the percentage of the approximately 100,000 STS Media customers on free service plans who elect to move to paid plans under the current Ting service plan offerings."

https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edga...531_8k.htm

No more free service for accounts bought by Ting.

Since this thread was posted, RP has said that for now they will keep a free tier for the GSM accounts to allow you to try their service.

"Your current GSM Plans will not change and your existing services will not be impacted in any way. "
"At this time, we're planning no major plan changes, and we remain committed to FreedomPop's legacy - including a free tier that allows you to try our service and hopefully make you want even more of it!"

"Prepaid wireless provider STS Media said on Friday it has agreed to sell its FreedomPop brand to Red Pocket Mobile"

https://www.reuters.com/article/u...SKCN1T810T

Regardless, people should still check their accounts. Some people have already reported being auto moved to paid plans from their free plans with no notification. Check your FP accounts to avoid getting a surprise bill. People in this thread have reporting finding that they were moved without notification to paid plans from their free plan. Here are threads discussing this.

UPDATE: If you still want to use a Legacy FreedomPop free account (500MB/month), you need to access it by using my.freedompop.com.
Freedompop.com will only give you access to the newer "premium" GSM accounts.
UPDATE 2: Looks like the Legacy will be ending for good at the end of April. Make sure to login and cancel accounts or you will be automatically moved to a $4/month plan.

PSA: if your top-up balance was charged more than 90 days ago, FreedomPop will NOT refund your money! They cite their ToS that it is non-refundable.

Message from FPop PoS CS:

This is internal policy since the top up was outside the time to process a refund. Also, in our terms and conditions the option is not available. All payments made to FreedomPop are final and are non-refundable. Please refer to the following link to review our Terms and conditions:

The FreedomPop LTE Sim runs on AT&T so that may not be affected.

Edit: Nvm. Sale to Red Pocket Mobile might change things for LTE sims.

Source to information of folks reporting this?
Edit: I found it seems that is a half truth.
Folks who did not see, or failed to respond to the email got moved and charged $3.99 a month when they could have opted out according to this source.
https://bestmvno.com/freedompop/s...d-to-paid/
Comments in that article make it seem like we might be able to opt in to keep it free.

"If you would prefer to keep your existing Basic plan, please use the following link and make selection to continue with existing plan:
my.freedompop.com/sprint-plan"

Closed my only active account, as I rarely use my FP phone. I just don't trust them after being R+'d so hard when they moved me to Ting. Both of their false promises and the Ting bill I had to fight were a PITA. Promised a big chunk of credit I had on my R+ account, but found out later Ting would only let me use some small amount ($10 IIRC) per cycle. Never again Ting.

EDIT: I just can't trust FP, and especially not Ting. Most months I only use it for a few apps, and to make a dummy call to keep from being classified as inactive - losing access.

It is always a PITA to get the phone to work right after reactivation. I doubt there will be any more free service.
See new information that OP put in later, after this post was originally made.

Thanks OP. Just canceled all my inactive accounts as well. No point in keeping them open since I never used them anyway.

This is the problem I've always had about Freedompop. Rep lurks here and know these policies are changing but we never receive any notifications about policies changes but constantly get spammed for new offers. Hope they sold to Ting and Red Pocket at a loss.

Hate to see the CEO pump up the fake subscriber base to sell and make a profit after all its terrible communications.

At least with R+, there was clear communications along the way.

That's what I have. Also never changed my billing from what the Ebay seller had set up.

Some of the most heroic SD members have assembled into this thread already. Avengers unite. We've been through this before. What was that other cellphone company that was offering free cellphone service that folded. I forgot their name already. But yeah, we've been through this. Everything good comes to an end. Free just doesn't last forever.

edit:
