Freedompop as we knew it is no more. The Sprint customers have been sold to Ting and the GSM customers have been sold to Red Pocket. As Ting puts it:
"Upon migration, these subscribers will have the option to accept the Ting offering or cancel or port their service elsewhere."
"The number of subscribers opting to continue their service with Ting will depend, in large part, on the percentage of the approximately 100,000 STS Media customers on free service plans who elect to move to paid plans under the current Ting service plan offerings."

No more free service for accounts bought by Ting.
Since this thread was posted, RP has said that for now they will keep a free tier for the GSM accounts to allow you to try their service.
"Your current GSM Plans will not change and your existing services will not be impacted in any way. "
"At this time, we're planning no major plan changes, and we remain committed to FreedomPop's legacy - including a free tier that allows you to try our service and hopefully make you want even more of it!"
"Prepaid wireless provider STS Media said on Friday it has agreed to sell its FreedomPop brand to Red Pocket Mobile"

Regardless, people should still check their accounts. Some people have already reported being auto moved to paid plans from their free plans with no notification. Check your FP accounts to avoid getting a surprise bill. People in this thread have reporting finding that they were moved without notification to paid plans from their free plan. Here are threads discussing this.

Edit: Nvm. Sale to Red Pocket Mobile might change things for LTE sims.

Edit: I found it seems that is a half truth.
Folks who did not see, or failed to respond to the email got moved and charged $3.99 a month when they could have opted out according to this source.

Closed my only active account, as I rarely use my FP phone. I just don't trust them after being R+'d so hard when they moved me to Ting. Both of their false promises and the Ting bill I had to fight were a PITA. Promised a big chunk of credit I had on my R+ account, but found out later Ting would only let me use some small amount ($10 IIRC) per cycle. Never again Ting.
EDIT: I just can't trust FP, and especially not Ting. Most months I only use it for a few apps, and to make a dummy call to keep from being classified as inactive - losing access.
It is always a PITA to get the phone to work right after reactivation. I doubt there will be any more free service.
See new information that OP put in later, after this post was originally made.
Hate to see the CEO pump up the fake subscriber base to sell and make a profit after all its terrible communications.
At least with R+, there was clear communications along the way.

That's what I have. Also never changed my billing from what the Ebay seller had set up.
