I was curious too and chatted with Amex customer service. They said cumulative charges would also qualify, so long as you hit the $200 amount within the window. Doesn't have to be single stay or single charge.

Hope this helps.

This has worked for me on GC's in the past. Specifically buying a GC at a "Marriott" property then using at a lesser property like Fairfield/Residence Inn (when there was a restriction). Be aware though that the front desk staff don't typically sell a lot of GC's so they might not know how to do it.

Perhaps because not everyone will qualify. These are targeted offers.

Thanks! Do these gift cards work on their properties for restaurants, coffee, taxes, fees, etc?

Good point. Do you think this offer excludes SpringHill Suites?

In the past it has however those offers also specifically excluded the lesser properties by name.

Not sure. It should work on anything related to a room bill but some properties have 3rd party vendors on site. Often these are things like restaurants and gift shops, even if they aren't explicitly indicated such. Note that these don't qualify for points either. Unfortunately every property and location are different.

Not all properties sell gift cards at the desk. The working theory is only company-owned hotels do.

Does this work if say I book via another site like Expedia etc? And select to pay at the hotel? Would the hotel charges look like it's from the hotel? Or the booking service website?
