These tools are great for removing filters that are either too tight, stuck, or in awkward places.

But a note about installation: Hand-tight is different for different people, so it's best to tighten with a torque wrench to the spec for your car (if available) or to the specifications that come with the filter, usually something like "3/4 turn past seal contact". If you can do that by hand, great, but the filter doesn't care if you use your hand or a tool to tighten it as long as you tighten it properly.

Make sure you lube the o ring with oil before tightening it. Makes it a lot easier to remove for next oil change.
It costs me between $21 and $24 (depending on the oil deals I can get) to perform my own full synthetic, oil and filter, versus on average about $65 at local shops, and that price is with a coupon in hand. I have never checked my dealer but I assume it would be even more. For my wife's Toyota Camry 4cyl I think the average or low cost conventional oil change at a local shop is $30 base price + disposal fee and tax, so like $34 and that is with coupon in hand. I don't believe that I would save much if I changed conventional oil on her car because of the cost of oil, but if full synthetic then it is at least a $40 savings each time.

Oil filters should be hand tightened anyway.

If you google "amazon price tracker" it will usually be the first result. Slickdeals bans links and references to it because they have their own Amazon referral codes that would bump off the slickdeal's referral codes resulting in lost revenue.

Hopefully this removes the 3" STP Filter I got at Autozone a while back where there was a SD for them with 5qts. None of my other wrenches fit it...

Great item, been using one for almost a decade. Speaking of CCC, if you're on a Android phone download the app TryCamel and it'll do it for you automatically. When you're looking at a item, click on the share icon/button and then click TryCamel then BOOM!

Ive heard this but always wondered (having done a hundred or so oil changes on all manner of cars) how on earth do you get the old filter OFF without any oil getting onto the seal at that point? Where are these spotless oil seals that this tip is for? Cause i know for darn sure on all the cars i've seen, when the old filter comes off, theres plenty of oil eager to lube the seal real good.

I know some people like to clean the oil filter mount. I occasionally do it.

But it's basically a precaution to pre-oil the o-ring. It's mainly lubrication for installing the oil filter without damaging the o-ring.
