It's helpful to wrap/tape an old rag around it before picking up the metal. That way when you're done, you can just pull the rag off (and the metal with it) and it keeps the magnet clean/er.
Umm brass isn't magnetic
Got this when it was on sale a while back for ~$12.

It came in handy when I lost a metal wheel clip and spacer off my riding mower. I swept along the path I had last mowed and it got it. I was amazed at the small pieces of metal wire and nails it pulled off my lawn and around the edge of my house.

In my case, it more than paid for itself in its first use.

Tempting for the price but doesn't appear to be big enough to be effective. You would also have to manually remove the metal objects from the magnet versus buying one with a quick release that makes it a lot easier.

EDIT: On second thought, meh, it's only $10 and I've been wanting one. Bought it. Thanks OP.

I just have two magnetic sweepers. The first one I use to get the metal off the floor, and then I use the second one to remove the metal from the first magnetic sweeper.

Own this, and kids love it. Two for one. 3 year old is amazed at it magical power to pick stuff up, so i let him "vacumm" up the ground throughout the property 1/3 acre. Plus metal stuff including iron from dirt gets cleaned up. I've picked up about a pint of random metal bits.

This is useful for picking up spent steel cased ammo from the shooting range.

I'm not getting the deal on this. From Walmart OR Amazon.
