In my experience as someone who uses a wheelchair fulltime, no you cannot. You must get a tag specifically for your wheelchair and it is considered luggage (it's free). You usually get to board the plane earlier than others and they will take it down then.
Great price. If money is an issue, I always recommend going to a local thrift store to find a used one. Many times they will also have other kinds of adaptive equipment such as a cane, crutches, shower chairs, etc.
You can get a regular wheelchair free from insurance, however, we also bought this one because it's light weight and easy to transport. Only bad thing is that both the smaller front and back wheels are not good and just a minor bump (as simple as a welcome mat) will stop it dead on its tracks. Have to be careful at all times when you're wheeling your loved ones. I think the next model up has bigger wheels and brakes right on the handlebars but heavier (15lbs vs 22lbs).

Black is back to $171 now but the red is still $109. Debating to get one because you never know when this can come in handy for family...I'll think about it. Great price though.

whoa, then it's at risk to 'lost luggage' for you?
