These are great, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA-I_o9PLtM

If you were already a sound nerd I would suggest waiting for an ath-M50X but these are just find and the sound differences between them aren't going to be noticeable by someone who is new to the hi-fi headphone scene. Even if you were, the differences are debatable and personal preference, some people will say the m40xs are preferable because they emphasize bass more than the m50xs, some people will say the m50xs are better for balanced sound, but there's also the m70x which is the top of this line, but the extra capability of the m70x is literally outside the human hearing spectrum.

I think this is a great deal and a great starter set plus the amp is pretty good.

The main diff is that the M50X has a larger driver and is a desirable upgrade from the 20x and 30x imo, and the detachable cable.

They are likely tuned "flat" from what I read since it is a monitor. I have the 40s with a dac/amp and have to use an eq to bump the bass for a balanced sound. I am not a bass head. I will say mids and highs are clean in the 40s. For that price with the amp pretty low risk.

Wouldn't it be better to get the Beyer dynamic DT 1990 Pro's?

I was getting all ready to make a response, but then I got the joke. Sure, if you got 600 dollars to spend on headphones then get those.

You are absolutely correct, sir.
M40X are really flat, if you like more bass you should get M50X
