looks cheap enough but the reviews are keeping me from ordering. many people complained about receiving almost empty or undercharged extinguishers, and amazon apparently won't allow you to return the product.

no thanks.
OK, how again is getting a partially charged one in any way 'probably the same' as getting one that's fully charged?

I'm normally pretty good at following along with the mental gymnastics people do, but I've done lost the trail this time.
A fire extinguisher isn't something you should cheap out on, especially one for your home.

How big of a fire can this put out?
Would it be good for like a car fire?
I wonder if it's worth having one to stash in the car.

Eh, most people aren't going to have them recharged as they age or even inspect them so it's probably the same result as if you got a full one

+1. Most people don't even have a fire extinguisher.

Itll last maybe 20 to 30 seconds of spraying. It won't stop a ruptured fuel line fire but it's better than nothing

Not if they are showing up half empty like most of the comments here and the product reviews are indicating.

Spend a little more money and go buy one with a metal handle and valve with larger capacity. I have 4 and none of them were cheaper than $30. But $30 to save tens of thousands of dollars is a no brainer.

Recent reviews don't show any low charge units, but they are old stock

I ordered two of these last time they were in sale, no issues with either.
