Store near me has 10 of these with the price expiring March 2020. Weird but anyone know if you have to stain this or should you be able to just build and leave outside?

it is cedar it can be left outside with no protection. without protection it should patina to a nice gray /silverish color. if that's not your thing and you'd like it to remain the color it is when you buy it throw a coat of poly on it. protection isn't needed. I've had a cedar fence unprotected for a little over a decade and it is still doing great. gray tone due to no protection but the wood is in good shape !

After two years, ours is still standing. No rot but because it is flimsy, the plants growing on it (a climbing rose and a clematis) are pulling it sideways a bit. Looking for a way to strengthen it.

You'll need cross braces or braces of some kind on the back. Our old one is doing the same thing. Just placed an order for this one.

Yup, I'll eventually put those galvanized metal brackets. I ordered the metal arch this time. Clematis collection is growing.
