Epix comes free with Charter Spectrum Internet subscription

Charter Spectrum doesn't advertise this, but if you subscribe to their Internet, whether or not you have any kind of tv package, you get Epix for free. This has been available for awhile; lots of people probably have no idea they have it. I only discovered it after cancelling my cable & keeping Internet. You can access the Epix website or use apps on devices like Roku using your Charter Spectrum login. If you get the app, make sure to get Epix, NOT the one called EpixNow!

On a computer, go to Epix [epix.com] in your web browser and click the Log In button in the top right. A popup asks "How would you like to watch?" Select the option on the right, which is:

Epix
TV or Digital Provider
Included with your existing subscription.

Click login, it will ask you to select your provider, which is listed as Spectrum. It takes you to the Spectrum site, where you login with the email and pass you always use with your Spectrum account.

You can also add the app to Roku (or whatever device you use) and activate it on your computer following the on-screen instructions. You may have to try and play a video to get it to prompt you to activate your device.

I found this out when I cut the cord earlier this week. No one at Charter mentioned I would still get Epix even though I was cancelling a cable plan that included all the movie channels. You'd think they'd mention I got to keep one free with my Internet service, but nope.

The only thing we watch on Epix is Get Shorty, which we love. A new season starts soon, so I was looking around for deals on Epix when I discovered a few sites talking about how Epix was free with Internet on Charter Spectrum (now called just Spectrum). So I logged in, and yep, it still works. My other premium channel logins no longer worked, as expected.

What to Watch on Epix

TBH, there isn't much. But:

Get Shorty stars Chris O'Dowd & Ray Romano and is great.

Some new shows look promising:
Pennyworth
Perpetual Grace LTD
Punk docuseries

Also, if you like football, they have NFL: The Grind

And of course movies. The selection isn't awesome, but you're bound to find something you'd want to watch.

Fyi, Epix works like the other premium channel apps. It's on demand, no commercials. New shows drop one episode a week. Past episodes and seasons are up to watch anytime.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Login Issues

A few people are getting an error when they try to log in. User Supergrant found a fix:

"For those getting the authentication error, disable all browser extensions. I am not sure which one was causing the issue, but after disabling them all it worked the first time."

Which App/Site to Use

Make sure you are using the Epix website or app, NOT EpixNow. You are logging in via a TV or Digitial provider, not doing a free trial.

Who's Eligible?
This has definitely worked for people using other Spectrum than Charter Spectrum (there was a merger, there are many providers now under the Spectrum umbrella/name, though the deal seems to have originally been offered via Charter). If you subscribe to any brand of Spectrum internet, doesn't hurt to see if you can sign into Epix via your provider.

Huh, who knew. I wonder if this is intentional. Usually these provider logins check for tv service on the provider.

From what I read online, it sure looks intentional. Not to mention, two or three years ago I noticed that Epix was showing as not in my tv package when I tried to set a recording on my DVR. I called Charter, and they said it was no longer included even though my fees had not decreased. This happened after a tech had been out for something else and had run some diagnostic that went through and noticed I still got Epix on my cable plan and removed it, though the tech didn't tell me that. The CS guy framed it like that had somehow switched me to a different plan that didn't include Epix, but later I learned they really just took Epix out of the gold select package as a way to sneakily give you less for the same money. Anyway, because of the way the CS guy phrased it, I argued it a bit that it wasn't my fault they somehow changed my package and that they needed to give me back my Epix. He finally admitted to me I could still login to the Epix app, which was fine, I didn't care about watching it on the dvr. We mainly recorded premium channels on the dvr just to remind us of a new show or movie, which we usually then watched on Roku. I assumed I was getting the Epix streaming only because I had the premium package, but looking back it was surely because I had their Internet.

Since searching for the topic, I was shocked to see some mentions of free Epix going back to 2010! Charter wants to discourage people from cutting the cord, I would imagine, so they don't tout the options that would help encourage people to do that. So why even have Epix free with Internet if you don't use it as a marketing tool? Well, I found a couple of sites that actually did list the free Epix as part of your benefits with Charter, but those were from secondary sites.

I can only guess, but Epix must've thrown streaming in as some kind of deal with Charter at some point, so Charter figured why not take it, but realized they didn't want to advertise something that might help encourage people to cut the cord or not subscribe to the premium channels. Epix is the weakest premium channel so it alone wouldn't hold much sway in convincing people to cut the cord, but Charter does a lot of funky stuff seemed aimed at alienating customers. Every interaction with them is painful.

Also use Epix NOT Epix Now. Log in with your cable providers login.

And now that it's on SD, Charter will see a surge or API registrations and cut the stream. LOL.

Oh god, I hope not. I found a reddit discussion about it from awhile back and it still works after that, but I guess more people see it here. BUT I don't think it's an error, I think it's a perk of the Internet service (as I said, some secondary sites signing folks up to charter actually list it as a perk).

So Epix is not an "on demand' service like Amazon or Netflix, right? In other words, they have a fixed schedule and you tune in at the correct time in their programming schedule to watch the movie. Correct?

BTW, did not know Epix was free with Spectrum. If it's not on demand, I may not use it but thanks anyway for the info. Repped!

If you're sure you're typing it in correctly, I wonder if it matters if you originally signed up with Charter or Spectrum in an area where it used to be called Charter. IIRC from older posts online, this was something given to Charter Internet users originally, so perhaps after the merger when it became Charter Spectrum (and now just Spectrum, I guess) only users on what used to be Charter still got it.

Possibly, it may mean if you have service called Spectrum you'll get this if that service used to be called Charter. But if it was never Charter, you won't. Maybe? This is just a guess. If others have the same problem who were never on Charter, that may be the reason. If they don't, it may mean you're having some other problem.

Mine is a new Spectrum internet only service signed up only 2 months ago. I rarely sign into spectrum account so had to reset the password - maybe that is causing this . I am able to sign out and sign back in to spectrum account. Will try again in some time.

Nope, it's like the apps for other premium channels. You go to the app or website and watch what you want, when you want. On demand, no commercials. New shows drop one episode a week rather than all at once, which is what the other premium channels do, too. But once up, they stay up, so you can catch up on old series or past seasons.

Let us know how it goes! It may just need a few days to update the login info. Charter sometimes had weird things go wrong with streaming logins where I had to call in to get it fixed, back when I had a cable package. Don't know if I'd call in about the Epix just in case getting it is an error (though I don't think it is). It's also possible that even if we are meant to get it, not all CS reps know about it because they aren't told to push it, so they still might not help you.

Do you know if the Spectrum in your area used to be called Charter, or was it Time Warner Cable? Not sure if that matters, like I said, but I'm curious if that's a factor for you.
