I just noticed this evening I was being charged a $1.00 "bag fee" when I attempted to order items on the Target app for in-store pick-up. I've never been charged this fee before and was wondering if this is something new? In case it is, I thought I would put the information out there for everyone else. Does anyone have any further information about this? I couldn't find an announcement or additional information online.

Possibly California only?

I just noticed this deal was marked "expired." Did I post it incorrectly? I don't usually post.

I noticed it too, is there a way to remove it somehow?
Not sure but this seems like a strange move, most people will just choose the free shipping instead (which equals an unnecessary box, postage, gas, etc). If they refunded the fee when you brought your own bag, then it wouldn't be so bad. I was just curious about this new policy because they never sent an email or anything announcing it.

H&M always charge bag fee but only if you want a bag. Forcing a fee on you even if you don't want their plastic is an insult.

Just a heads up the bag fee of $1 is an authorization charge for 10 bags at .10 each. Once the order is put on hold at the store the correct bag charges will apply depending on how many bags are needed for an order. So if only 1 bag is used a .10 bag fee is charged and not $1. The correct bag fee will apply when picking up the order and the final receipt after picking up the order will be adjusted. If you choose not to take any bags at pickup the employee at the pickup or drive up can adjust the bag quantity. Target has been giving away free order pickup bags in the past however they are now required to charge for bags in states that charge a bag fee.

Not correct for my situation. They still charged me the bag fee and gave me nothing when I pick up my items last night. I asked them why and they told me nothing but to call Target. Before they didn't give me any bag for pickup order either. Now only way without bag fee is delivery option.

The final total will take a few days to post just like any other transaction. Pending charges will include $1 for the bag fee but the receipt after picking up the order should have the correct bag fee. All online orders for pickup and drive up will have $1 added as a preauthorization but once the transaction posts it will be corrected to the actual amount of bags used/given. Walmart grocery pickup does the same and adds the bag fee once order is picked up.

Trying to place an order for an item of $8.71. In additional to the $1 bag fee, they want to charge me $1.68 tax however the tax rate is 8% here. WTF is going on?

Order pickup
Subtotal (1 item) $8.71
Delivery Free
Fees $1.00 Bag fee**
Estimated tax $1.68 Delivery & tax for 92xxx
Total $10.39

EDIT: I think I figured it out, the tax is based on the original MSRP of $19.99 plus the $1 bag fee. This is really fxxxed up...

I definitely got charged $1 and didn't use a bag. Even shadier, the "fee" line disappeared from my summary, however the charge still processed. The cashier confirmed this. Ex: my order total including tax was $41.73 and underneath it says red card charge amount $42.73. He told me all pick up orders are charged this $1, he doesn't have an option to remove it, and they haven't been told anything about it.

Believe or not, I actually created account to reply this thread. Lol.
So, like everyone here, I also saw the $1 bag fee on check out page today. Yes, there is the fine print in the bottom saying they will refund any unused bags, so I went ahead and submit my order thinking I'll just take my own bags to pick up the items. After picking up the items using my own bags, the receipt was sent with still 10 cents for 1 bag that Target used to put in my items, even though I didn't take that bag home, probably they will toss it a trash because it have been used. Yes, I understand that it cost 10 cents per bag. But, the thing is, I, as a customer, didn't choose to put my order in that plastic bag. When placing orders, we don't know how many bags they're going to use. We have no ability to choose zero bag. I understand that Target is trying their best to comply with California law, but, why can't consumers have the choice to bring our own bags here? It's just unpractical and illogical. Target charges us how many bags Target employees using, not us, who are the customers. I hope they will resolve this problem soon. Either giving us the option to choose how many bags at checkout, or Target employees stop putting items in plastic bags on their own. Lets cross our fingers.

Yeah. Really ridiculous rollout by Target. It's not like this law dropped suddenly! Hard to imagine they didn't have time to do it the right way - which is to give an option to consumers to select how many bags they need at checkout!

The lady at pickup desk told me she had no idea about it. She had no option to adjust the number of bags. But they used one bag for my items, so even I didn't take that bag, they took out the items and throw that bag away. I still got charged 10 cents on my receipt. Is it her fault for not knowing how to update the number of bags? Or since they couldn't reuse that bag, so I still got charged even I didn't take that bag home?
