I just noticed this evening I was being charged a $1.00 "bag fee" when I attempted to order items on the Target app for in-store pick-up. I've never been charged this fee before and was wondering if this is something new? In case it is, I thought I would put the information out there for everyone else. Does anyone have any further information about this? I couldn't find an announcement or additional information online.

Possibly California only?

Done.
But changes are REALLY high they won't, and we shouldn't have to keep an eye on our card for a week just to make sure they've done what they're supposed to. With my last order, the associate didn't use any bags at all (right off the bat, not even per my request which I would have asked for anyway), and told me I wouldn't be charged for bags. Guess what? Charged $1.00 for zero bags (bags here cost .10 each). This happens every single time I place an in-store pickup order.

I've used Target Drive-UP and in-store pickup a bunch of times since they implemented this policy and they've correctly refunded the charge every time.

No issues. Guess I'm lucky and my local Target is just competent.

This is my observation:
  1. Your Target account purchase history page will always show an amount including bag fee, even if you didn't end up getting charged for it
  2. You Target pickup confirmation email "Hooray! Your order ending in XXXX was picked up" will always show the correct amount: if the bag fee was taken out by whoever processed your pickup, it will be reflected in the email
  3. Of course, your credit card history will always reflect the actual amount

They say they will refund bag fee but they are not doing it in Calif even when asked in advance at Pick up. Have contacted corporate office in Az and local store twice, no luck in fixing problem or training staff. They say they have removed fee but when you look at receipt it is still there. Finally filed complaint with Calif Attorney General. I do not mind paying fee when I take bags but when I bring my own they need to remove charge. I was told there is a glitch in their system that prevents them from removing fee in store.. Figure $1.00 per transaction per customer. 1 mill customers/ day in US =$1,000,000 in bag revenue even when they are not giving you bags. wow what a scam.

I have same experience, being charged 1.00 bag fee for Target.com online order for store pickup. Told store clerk that I expect the bag fee be credited to my account since I do not need any. Clerk said I would not be charged, yet final bill shows it. Target is not being honest to charge fee for 10 bags in the first place for every online order. Will file complain to CA attorney general, wonder if someone is considering a class action law suit.

it is pretty lame that target charges $1 for online pickup while walmart packs the item in 3x size box for free. Target didn't give me a bag when I picked up the item.

They never refunded me $1 bag fee after I got the item. I didn't want to waste time asking them about it but I won't be buying from Target.com much anymore. They shouldn't do that If they wanted to be competitive

I know this is an old thread but in case someone comes across it:
If you're in a that has a bag ordinance when checking out online you'll see this message
**Estimated bag fee:
Bag fees are required by law in your area. This estimated bag fee is for the cost of 10 bags at this store. You'll only be charged for the bags used for your order. For Drive Up or Order Pickup orders, the final bag fee can be refunded at pickup if you decline bags or bring your own.

When you pick up or dive up tell the Team Member you don't want the bags and they'll remove the 10 cent per bag charge.
