Have a pair blades sitting on the garage shelf. I had trouble removing the bolt from the mower. It's too tight. What kind of tool do people use to remove the bolt?

i recommend the ryobi 18v 1/2". there are deals on this, but also ryobi has a lot of 18v tools. except for my mower, which is kobalt, i have ryobi trimmer, blower, drills, saw, and edger. all use the same battery. i think 300ft/lbs is the minimum for an impact

I already owned a Dewalt 20v drill with 3 batteries and 2 chargers. I will probably just get a Dewalt impact driver bare tool. Does 1/2" vs 1/4" make any difference?

You can try the usual methods: impact, torch, lubricants. etc. If that doesn't work or you want the easy way out, wave the white flag and use a Dremel or angle grinder to sharpen the old blades that are still bolted on.

Only one Lowe's has the lower price in my vicinity. Decent deal but not worth driving 30 miles.

Unless the blade is damaged, just sharpen it in place. Or, block the blade from moving and use a socket (6 pt.) on a 1/2' breaker bar with some Polish Finesse.
