  • The E8 has a more powerful processor (a9) than the B8 (a7); the E8 also features premium Picture-on-Glass display and better sound (Dolby Atmos 4.2 60W vs the B8's Dolby Atmos 2.2 40W). For more information on the differences between the 2 classes, refer to LG's website here.

HDMI 2.1 will gove you variable refresh rate and auto low latency mode on the Xbox One X. Even more exciting however is the recent addition of nVidia gSync for rtx series graphics cards on the c9 and e9 oleds.

If you're a gamer, and especially if you are thinking about buying a PS5, Xbox Scarlett or GeForce RTX 2000 or upcoming 3000 card then you will definately want the C9 or E9 oled over the C8/E8.

PS4 Pro and Nintendo Switch do not support any HDMI 2.1 features or HDR.

Also, if you are using an AV receiver then very few of them support HDMI 2.1 VRR or ALL modes. You will have to directly plug it into your TV and use eARC to the receiver.
LOL. Future proofing TVs? Really? At some point you will need to drop out of this rat race.
Not entirely related to the post, but to anyone that's looking for a last year OLED model and don't mind open box, be sure to check bestbuy.com and see if stores around you have them available. Usually the in-store price is even better than the online price, and you could check the actual price by calling the store.

I just got a 65B8 from them. The website listed it at $1080 as "open box satisfactory", but when I called them the guy told me it's only missing a remote and the box. I went to the store to see it in person, and yup the TV even has its screen protector on; the in-store price was $950 with an additional 10% off all open-box TVs, so my total was $930 after tax, an unbelievable price including full warranty.

TLDR: if you don't mind open box, check BestBuy cuz they might have much better deals.

Good price for a 55 but find me the 65 for maybe $300 more and I'm in.

Let the 55" have it's moment... it's been mostly deals on 65" and above. Still hoping for a better deal in the next few weeks

Can someone tell me how important HDMI 2.1 is over the next 5 years? Is the B9, C9 worth the couple hundred dollar premium? How much of a difference does it make with the Xbox One X?

I keep buying and returning 4K TV's because they aren't as good as I'm hoping for. I'm at the point that OLED is probably a necessity.

I'll take 55" great picture over 65" mediocre picture. To each their own.

Oled in general just need to come down in price to compete. Right now the choice is slightly better picture in oled or get a larger tv with I good enough for me picture and save $1000.

Hdmi 2.1 is mostly gonna matter for 8k and crazy high bitrate stuff. So I'd say it matters very little in a 4K tv but would matter more in a receiver since it'll connect to other devices in the future.

True. And this is last year's model, so it should be a couple hundred lower than current ones anyway.

Honestly, they are going to have HDMI 3.0 in the next five years at their current rate. I would say it is unimportant and it makes no difference for Xbox One X which I believe uses HDMI 2.0.

Scarlett will have 2.1 probably.

Also, I have this TV and an Xbox One X. I can tell you it isn't worth the premium.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I see the variable refresh rate (with 2.1) is something that the Xbox one S and X will utilize but I doubt I'll ever notice the difference. The pre-calibration score on rtings for the e8 is really enticing. 950 for the b8 is also really enticing.
