Recommendation on 4 GB ram to add in an empty slot or make sense to add 8gb + existing 4gb?

Oh WOW!!!! I placed the order online earlier today, now I'm really wondering
if I'm going to get the i5-1035g4 in it... fingers crossed.

It would be so awesome because it would be so unexpected!

Edit: Just checked eMail and Costco said it shipped, and it was shipped from the same state where I am residing, so I'm expecting delivery tomorrow via UPS.
I will post a follow-up tomorrow on the CPU when I get it.
Pleas update today when you receive whether it's the i5. Should be but would be nice to have confirmation.

Awesome deal, ordered one, hoping on the i5 aswell, and yes those new CPUs support 3200MHz DDR4 RAM comparing to the old 8th gen max of 2667MHz, planning on getting a nice 2x8GB kit when they go on sale for BF

the 10th gen i5 in this laptop is about 10% faster than i5-8520U and 2x better in the graphics department, also it should run much more cooler as is 10nm build

I hear ya, I just received my 14w yesterday but it's still boxed up. Have read some yay and nays on it and am also considering return and getting this one but I have my desktop for editing etc ,and would use the14w for surfing and youtube,am wondering what you think of the 14w.

the build quality is good. feels like a more expensive laptop. its not snappy and you will have noticeable delays when clicking on youtube videos and going back and forth from full screen. i knew the screen was going to be disappointing and since the main reason i bought it was to watch videos on it i have regret sinking in.

i feel like i should put them side by side and then return one.

For $150 more, it sounds like you get 3X the performance, 2X the SSD, IPS screen, 10nm technology and a system that's very upgradeable.

I'm glad I didn't jump on the 14W deal since I already have several old laptops and the 14W sounds like more of the same.

I'm going to check out this machine and unless build quality is poor I might pick one up. There's a lot to like.

tell me about it. the Intel Core i5-1035G4 @ 1.10GHz clocks in at 10199!

probably hold on to this laptop much longer than the 14w which is noticeably slow already

Probably not. As per the specs, the USB-C port doesn't have Power Delivery or Extended USB-C capabilities (namely DisplayPort & HDMI output). So essentially the USB-C port functions like a regular USB 3.0 Type-A port.

That being said, I have not tested this because I don't have a USB-C hub that uses PD or Extended USB-C. The description for the CPU on this system is wrong on both HP's website and at Costco, so maybe it's wrong on other specs as well. Hopefully someone can test the USB-C port functionality and report back.

It's not ultra smooth like a good glass one. Also when swiping you can sometimes feel some some give where the virtual buttons are on the bottom left and right, almost like you did half a click, but it doesn't register as a click or anything.

It does have the Microsoft Precision driver though, which is quite nice for Windows.

All in all I'd give the trackpad maybe a B or B+, which is very usable and not annoyingly bad, and is ok for this price point and for Windows.
