What a load of sxxx. Just those FHD or UFHD strain the eyes with those tiny little fonts or the dysfunction disproportionate scaling. Also this is antiglare, you can blind your eyes with those HP or whatever glossy screen you have.
Font size for 720p for 14' is much better that those. (I intentionally use 720p and 110% scaling)
So I picked one of these up today from my local Walmart and as has been said it showed i3 on the box but is in fact the i5 1035g4 quad core CPU. I had parts laying around so i wanted to see how far i could push the system so I swapped the screen, added a sata and nvme drive to it. The disassembly is a pain but the screen is a standard 30 pin EDP and handles a high end 1080p IPS screen just fine. It also can handle 32gb of ram and a 1tb nvme drive. I am actually surprised how damn far you can push this machine.
Picked mine up today. Showed 3 in stock at local store but they could only find 1 on the shelf. Walmart Website says I3, box says I3, actual laptop I bought today has the I5 1035G4. Dell's own online store doesn't sell a 14 inch with the 10th gen I5 only I3. Dell website does show I5 on show configuration on their website. I am guessing this is a mistake by dell since their box with their label says I3 on it. If your looking for a cheap 2nd laptop this might be a good candidate.
I already put matching 4gb sticks in to bump to 8gb. Installed a 500GB Samsung Evo as a storage SSD. Guy above me just answered my last question. IF I decide down the road I want FHD over HD looks like you can get compatible screens (30 pin, right side port) on ebay for $50 - $60 shipped for IPS or TN screens.
I have been looking for a 14 inch couch website and streaming laptop. This is great price for performance. Casing isn't as sturdy as a latitude but the small form factor and I5 power for less than $300. If your looking for USB-C you may need to look at the latitude line but I don't need it for a little surfer laptop.

Can you please link to the replacement 1080p iOS screen?

I don't have any direct links to buy them as I had all of these screens on hand from my repair projects. These are all tested and work in this machine, when searching for them make sure they are exact model and not compatible. These are the very best of the best for early edp 30 ping screens listed below.

Hey Spunducky. Which was the best of those screen replacements in your opinion. The last one listed the LG panel looks to be IPS and has better reviews than the AUO panels. Did the brightness control work on the LG?
After reading out in the sun today (why I bought the little 14 inch) I really want to bump up the screen on this thing as I am positive it will be a keeper laptop.

I ended up settling with this panel: LP140WF3-SPD1.
It is also one of the easier ones to find and yes brightness controls work in windows and linux. It gets quite bright as well. All the screens have various trade offs and there is a samsung one as well but it is nearly impossible to find. I will say none of them will be disappointing but the LG will be the cheapest, easiest to find, and to most people look the best.
I highly recommend bringing up the service manual as well when you do this as you have to strip the laptop down pretty far up to and including removing the display assembly from the base. A good quality precision philips screw driver and at least 1 good spudger were needed to seperate plastics and disconnect cables without damage.
Ironically after my mods, had I paid for the addon parts out of pocket it would have added an additional $250 in cost. This might seem ludicrous on such a cheap machine but the i5 is a monster cpu and with the upgrades this machine outperforms all of my colleagues high end machines besides full powered workstation class stuff. I think the only con really is the build quality isn't as tough as some of my thinkpads and latitudes but I am working on 3d printing some addon pieces to reinforce the chassis.

Ah so it wasn't as easy as popping the bezel. Undoing the 4 screws that hold it in and disconnecting the 30 pin EDP cable on the back like it was on my other dell I replaced the screen on?
I am going to check the manual or ifixit.com once I have some spare time before I order the screen.

Yea that was my hope and first attempt was just popping the bezel off and removing the screen but the bottom of the bezel goes under the hinge covers and hinge it self. Basically here is what you need to do:
1. Remove base cover, it is just philips screws and some snap tabs, pretty easy.
2. Disconnect battery cable
3. Disconnect EDP 30 pin from mother board
4. Disconnect wifi card or just the antenna cables your choice.
5. Unscrew hinges from base to remove display assembly.
6. Squeeze to remove hinge covers
7. Spudger to pop off bezel(easy)
8. Undo 4 screws for lcd panel
9. disconnect EDP cable
10. put things back together starting from the end
It wasn't bad as i have a lot of experience doing this stuff but it also wasn't a 5 minute job either especially not being familiar with inspiron layout.
Anyone install ubuntu on one of these and get dual monitor to work? Works fine in windows for me but can't get it to recognize in ubuntu. Trying to make this an arcade machine.
Likely the best laptop deal this season as I received an i5-1035G7 10th gen although the box was labelled i3. I guess I got luckier than most. This is the fastest laptop i5 currently made, rivals some i7s, and benchmarks twice the speed as 10th gen i3s. The Walmart page on customer comments says others also received the 10th gen i5, but the slightly slower i5-1035G4. The G7 benchmarks at 9800, or twice the i3.
Two memory slots, one open so you can upgrade. This is current 3000 series 3x93 model (supports PCIe 3 x 4 SSD), not last year's 3x83 model which were the i3 and i5 Black Friday BestBuy doorbusters which only supported 3x2 SSD. Add some memory and replace the SSD with a NVMe 256GB PCIe 3x4 m.2 Samsung Evo 970 Plus (fastest SSD made today) for $46 from BestBuy, throw in an internal 2.5" HDD for extra storage (caddy and cable is inside unit), and you'll have an extremely fast machine for under $325. That's what I did.
Dell had this in 15" with 8GB and 256 SSD for $400 on BF. Note that 14" usually costs more than 15" for some reason.
Many Walmart stores are out of stock, so you may have to hunt around a bit to find one.
The no charge upgrade from S to Win10 Home took 10 seconds after pressing 1 button. I took the back cover off...laptop and plastic seem well made.
Much better deal vs. Costco HP, not because Dell is great, but because HP's entry-line is so cheaply made. The back plastic cover flexes so much that it will likely crack along with the LCD cover...happened on my HP 15" in less than a year. No more entry-level HP for this family.

Here is a better comparison. This is an actual 3rd gen intel i7 mobile processor compared to the cpu in this $249 laptop.
