Has anyone considered comparable Husky mechanic sets with the no-questions lifetime replacement warranty? They are believed to be manufactured by Stanley. You can return any broken tool to Home Depot for direct replacement. Like the Dewalt kits, they are made in China. The 270-piece Husky set includes a tool box with pull out drawers for $149. The 230-piece set comes with carrying case for $99. Both tick more features than similar Dewalt deals posted so far. Any direct experience comparing Husky design and quality to Dewalt?

The DeWalt set I purchased last year was made in Taiwan, have they switched production to China?

May still be Taiwan. Several tool forums mention China, but may not know the difference. Wikipedia indicates Husky hand tools are made in China or Taiwan. One forum says Husky sets were made by Stanley in 2010, other sites mention Black & Decker. Stanley acquired Black & Decker, while Black & Decker owns Dewalt. So the answer may be about similarity more than difference.

I'm gonna check it out in store but might end up going with the Costco deal as I want something that I can easily transport everyday just in case. I also have a system similar to this at home and it can be a pain to play around with the trays trying to get to what you want.

So, what do you all think? This, Kobalt, or Craftsman in the same class? The box sways me to this
My understanding the old Kobalt was Taiwan made and were good, now China. I have a couple of the Kobalt sets because they were cheap and thought of leaving them in the car... with that said regret doing so. The socket are inconsistent between sets, one easy to read the size and another is not. Some of them out of the box have rust within the socket where the chrome was not covered well. As for Craftsman, I was tempted to get the Ace hardware deal but too many complaints and people nothing they are harbor freight quality. I went with dewalt because i understand they are made in Taiwan... if I find out otherwise, I'll put a post in to let others know. Keep in mind that just because it's made in Taiwan doesn't mean it's the best OR better than the one made in China, just have read most of the good stuff is made in Taiwan so my reasoning.

Most Kobalt hand tools made before 2010 were made by Danaher Tool (Apex, Matco, Allen, Armstrong, crescent etc.) and almost all their hand tools were made in the US. It's no coincidence that most Craftsman hand tools in 2010 were also still made in the US, because most of them were also made by Danaher tool. After 2010 it's a complete crapshoot as to where these hand tools are made.

I also tend to agree with you that generally in my experience Taiwanese hand tools seem to be of better quality than Chinese made stuff. But I'd still much rather pay more for quality tools made in the US.

There is some hope that we'll be able to buy some reasonably priced USA made hand tools again pretty soon. After Stanley acquired the Craftsman brand, it decided to build a new plant in Fort Worth, Texas to manufacture Craftsman mechanics tools. It supposedly will be completed late in 2020.

This is also a cool link that tries to explain which tool companies, own which brands in 2019. It's still doesn't really help to figure out where the stuff is made though. But it's interesting none the less.

It's also worth noting that these so called "Mechanics" tool sets that, Dewalt, Kobalt and, Craftsman put out are all very good values for weekend warriors, occasional wrenchers, and seemingly fantastic starter sets for budding home mechanics. However, rarely do any of these value sets include impact sockets, which are a staple socket for Mechanics that actually make a living with their tools.

For those aspiring mechanics that want to make a living with their tools, and want to start building a real tool set on a budget, A company named Tekton is branding some really nice tools for the money. Most of their socket sets are still made in Taiwan, but regardless of origin they still seem to be very good quality tools that get great reviews on Amazon. And I think all of Tekton's Pliers, screwdrivers and some of their wrenches are now made in the US as well.

I think the husky is a better set, with more wrenches and a slide out type chest. I got mine for 99 after black friday

I've had this for a year or so. Pretty inclusive for all the main tools you'll need on a regular basis but I keep a second toolbox for the less used tools

Thanks for the info, but the new one does not seem to be compatible with tough systems. I prefer the one posted by OP, just because of the box.
Good info but that one also has the stupid non-quick release ratchets.

The one in this post vs. the Costco set is obviously a lot more, but it has proper ratchets and I think the nested tray in an actual tool box looks like a very nice solution to me. It'll be weatherproof and I would think it would hold up a lot better than most of the fully unique blow-molded kits that are hosed as soon as anything happens to the case. Just the ratchets and actual box would justify +$50 for me, easy. Add in the extra tools and it seems like a much better overall deal to me, despite the big jump in price.

Seems like a really nice kit for someone getting started.

Would you (or some other owner of this set) be able to post a pic of the contents sticker from the back of the box? I can't find a list of contents anywhere online. The HD description says it includes a SAE 2 in.1/2 in. drive 6-point deep socket but I can't see one that big in the pics!

Good info... I've seen this info before but look forward to reviewing again. Nice post. Unfortunately my Kobalt set is from 2017, for the money at the time it wasn't bad but yeah you can just tell it was made in China.

If NervousSwing4987 doesn't, I will. Supposed to get my set tomorrow. If any other pictures wanted, let me know now.
