However, I do not like that there is a delay of video capturing triggered by motion. There is at least a 2 second delay to these to start capturing. If the object in video is moving at a fast speed or turns a corner outside of the viewing angle, chances are that the Arlo will not capture the "moment" of things happening. The Arlo does pick up motion pretty well, so if you have a long hallway or driveway, it'll detect motion and start recording once the target is in your hallway, not entering. For that reason, I'm returning and looking for an installer to install a NVR/PoE system.
FYI - the ability to capture license plates during the day so that you're able read them depends on how many effective pixels you can get on the license plate. While higher resolution is better for this - remember it is effective pixels on target.
The 4K cameras from Arlo have very wide FOVs, which reduces the "range" - and with compression to reduce cloud storage and bandwidth you get less effective pixels.
For a better idea of how FOV camera resolution affects the theoretical ID distance ( and also license plate reading ability ) see the ID distance chart in

Also - night time license plate capture is challenging due to the reflective nature of plates - so you will need to custom tune the camera to just capture plates to read. ( see ipcamtalk lpr section for more info on this )

That sucks. That is exactly the sort of issues which inspired me to also get a setup.

ipcamtalk cliff notes ( in the ipcamtalk wiki section ) also is loaded with info.
I'd recommend going with a good IP PoE system for the core part of your setup, and maybe augment with a cloud camera or 2 ...
If looking for better 8MP cameras look for one's which have some of the new 1/1.8" or larger sensors..
This is what was posted:
this is why i gave the following recommendation:
or did they just show up to court with the video?
Plan to cover the approaches to your home well.. look for some good varifocal cameras for that. If you get a nice kit you can typically augment it with additional cameras - stick with the same OEM for the cameras and NVR for the best results
did the other poster following my recommendation?
or did they just show up to court with the video?
It should not be that hard to create proper video evidence. This is a significant failure on the part of Netgear's Arlo system.
Police do not always show up and do the proper evidence gathering, and even if they do they still can not verify that the video was not tampered with.
The defense lawyers will attempt various logical points to have the evidence tossed, and some judges will accept those points.
There's a good FBI video on this topic - a bit dated but still good on proper collection of video evidence and the importance of proper embedded time stamps. https://archives.fbi.go
The bottom line is that Netgear should do proper embedding of time stamps in the video clips to make them better for evidence.
1. Is service required for real time monitoring for vacations? Do you get clips like Blink provides without any service?
2. Does anyone use a solar setup, or aftermarket solar (I have a few panels) and know what voltages these can take to charge?
3. If solar's whack, what is the real-time expected use for battery life, say about 10-20 triggers a day.
Thx

Going back to eufy, at lleast it only have a 1 sec delay
1) Arlo provides a free tier of cloud service for their Arlo, Arlo Pro, Arlo Pro 2, and other 1080P / 720P cameras. Motion detection triggered clips 20-120 seconds. ( to reduce the lag issues with the Arlo Pro 2 - wire it to power )
2) Arlo cloud is the principle storage location. Option to also store on some base stations. iirc this one has a microSD slot.
3) Instantly? No.. there's a bit of a lag.. camera motion triggered lag, then round trip from Arlo cloud service to your device...
if you want continuous recording option you will need to wire to power and upgrade to a paid tier for the cloud service.
Yes you can record footage.
You can manually record a 'clip' to the Arlo cloud service.
You can set 20-120 seconds long clips to record based on motion detection events.
( if you plug the Arlo Pro 2 into power it can include some seconds prior to the motion detection trigger - which helps a lot to give you a more complete clip )
If you wire to power the Arlo Pro 2 you can even set it up for continuous recording ( you will need to upgrade your service plan for that option - also check if you have any bandwidth caps from your ISP )
Motion detection triggered clips can be also saved to the base station USB or microSD card last I checked the specs.
No. These cameras do not have an available rtsp feed for you to locally store the videos.
