I don't own the one that you posted here, OP. I think yours is a pretty good deal, I'm not sure about the quality of the Kailh brown switches in it. I only have a Cherry Mx brown switch keyboard.

I'd check this one out:

The Hexgears one after coupon and shipping for me came out to 55 bucks, and I ordered the Hako Clears. I have read that the Kailh box switches (I think for 5 bucks less) are well reviewed. I received it yesterday and am super impressed. The all metal chassis is VERY nice. The only downside are no USB pass through and the cable is not detachable.

Thanks for sharing. I'm looknig for something to do web dev / programming on. I would prefer least loud which I believe is brown. Do you think the Hexgear you have would be a good fit for me.

The lack of USB pass-through etc is NBD for me. I want a solid KB that feels good and isn't gonna go to shit in a few months.

Cool, I'm a professional dev/architect myself so I can help you from that perspective.

Few things here:

1) If you want noisy, browns are not what you want. Blues are clickier than browns. I have a mono price keyboard with cherry blues that I was using at work and for typing, it can't be beat. It is slowly starting to break, so I just recently switched to my cheap backup keyboard with outemu blues (which for the like 20 bucks I paid for it a fantastic value. Outemu switches feel a bit cheaper than the cherry switches, but at that price, it was a no brainer) If you want a pure typing keyboard that's noisy, I think blues are your best bet.

2) I actually have an older Rosewill keyboard with Cherry MX browns and I like it very much. Browns are quieter than Blues, and are perfect for a balance between gaming and typing. I don't game a LOT, but I do a little.

3) per the link I shared, I ordered the hexgears with hako clears. Hako clears feel like (so far) browns but with a heavier touch. But they are not noisy. From what the poster of the hexgears thread said, Kailh box whites are what you would want; they are equivalent to blues.

4) I am really liking the hexgears one so far. But bear in mind I've literally had it one day.

I am happy to answer any questions you have. I am not an expert in keyboards, but I own a bunch of them because I'm trying to find the "perfect" one. I do not own any "expensive" mechanicals, though. All of mine were bought at $70 or less.

So the Browns are less noisier than Blues. Okay, that's great. What about the Kailh switches? Are they as robust and sturdy as Cherry?

I do not own a Kailh switch keyboard, so I don't specifically know. From what I read, the Kailh Box switches are a step up from the standard Kailh switches.

I misread the original question so yes, if you want LEAST noisy with still good feeling browns are good. I also like the Logitech Romer-g switches too. Some people complain they feel mushy

First, thank you for taking the time, and being so detailed.

I know almost nothing about the different types of switches, but I'll survive.

I think I want brown, because (what little I do know) they're less loud. Mainly not to disturb anyone around me who might be bothered by such things. Does the loudness, or lack there of, effect how they feel?

I guess my choices are:

1) Get the $20 one from NewEgg. Just to test the waters

2) Go for the $45 one you recommended and do about the same (i.e., check it out). Ideally, it's a better choice. And if not, I keep looking and keep it as a back up.

The +$25 might as well be zero, but none the less, it's only worth it if there's a measurable increase in value. Right?

Thanks again.

I once bought a blue switch keyboard. The neighbors didn't like it at night 😂.
I had a red switch keyboard. Too mushy.
Then I got the brown, just perfect.

Hey man,

I wouldn't bother with the "hybrid" $20 one. That sounds like a load of BS.

The one you posted isn't bad at all, please don't get me wrong. I was just trying to offer you alternatives.

I'm typing on the hexgears one right now, and I can see how it might be problematic for some people. I think it's good, but it's definitely going to take some getting used to. The keys are HEAVY.

You are likely best off ordering either the keyboard you originally posted or maybe getting a hexgears with the Kailh Box Browns. I think you can't go wrong with either one. Put it this way...in the $50-$60 range, both are nice choices. About 4 years ago when I started trying to find a mechanical, keyboards in the $50-$60 range were hard to find, which is why I ended up with the Monoprice blue keyboard. Nothing wrong with that keyboard, but the "extras" like RGB or full metal chassis was definitely not available.

regardless of what switch you get, unless you specifically buy mx silent red or some other custom silent switches, it's gonna be very loud.
YMMV based on tolerance but if you have other people in the same room bothered by noise, i wouldn't recommend anything but a keyboard with silent red switches (which will probably cost ~$100).
Brown/red are basically the same in terms of volume level and even though they aren't as loud as blues, they are still very significantly louder than a standard office membrane keyboard.

I like the looks of this but at 50 it really isn't much of a discount from other retailers.
