All the video and internet reviews ive personally seen describe these TUFs as having a cheap plastic feel and it being the very lowest tier offering-- as the price would suggest. Im not discounting it entirely even for myself, serial downvoters, I'm just saying i'll pay extra to have better build quality. That is, if a better offer will be available. BF seems to be a crapshoot.
Yea. That's all I been using to for. Played destiny, Forza, Warframe. So far it handles. I connected to external msi 144hz monitor and it can push close to 100fps at 1080p. More if I tweak settings. I'm mainly PS4 player but its cool to jump on this when kids hogging the TV. Lol
The plastic on the cover is what feels cheap -- keep in mind FEELS cheap. Metal is used in the chasis and due to the thickness it's actually a quite robust laptop. I purchased it specifically due to how rugged it is, not how the back of the screen lid "feels". There's a reason it's called "tuf" because it's built rugged and meets mil spec requirements regarding dust and vibration resilience including liquid ingress in the keyboard. I bought one as I use it outside on job sites and needed a robust laptop with GBE and a number pad. Gaming laptops happen to be the thickest / most robust laptops, so it's a win win as I appreciate not having to be subject to integrated video which sucks. Just returned a ryzen 5 w/ vega 8 integrated because it sucked so bad.

Im hoping to find something in the 700 range with much better build quality. But im also wondering if i'll be able to find that as the bf deals so far are just plain bad, much better deals have been listed in the past month.

Asus spec indicates there is a PCIe and 2.5" SSD slot. Best Buy indicates it's PCIe is occupied. Hopefully it can be fitted with a 2.5" drive to expand the storage without carrying another device.

What makes you think the build quality is poor on this one? I've seen a comment or two in the previous thread with this exact same model, but I don't think it's wise to base your judgement on just one or two pieces of feedback. There were far more positive comments.

This seems to have really good specs for that price range. Is there any reason why this would not make be a slam dunk of a purchase?

It has empty 2.5". I bought one last time it was on sale. Pretty good laptop for the value.

I expect something equipped with 1660 ti at the $600 range during BF and CM.
Not happening. Lol. 1660 ti max q cheapest I seen is $700. Doubt regular 1660ti will be $600.. But I hope you are right. As I would pull trigger on that as well.
