Yeah, I have had good experiences so far with grey market cameras. Bought a 6D earlier and Mark IV. Did not have any issues.
Yeah, it just depends on how risk-averse you are. I have a hard time spending $1500 on a camera that won't be supported by the manufacturer's warranty off of eBay. Big box or someplace like that I at least have the ability to return if things go wrong in the first 30-90 days. I know the seller says they offer the same warranty protection as the manufacturer for the first year, but I've always been skeptical of that.

If you're in the USA, Canon USA will support the camera/lens you've purchased, even if it was purchased grey market. I know - I sent in a 70-200 f/2.8 II lens to Canon repair, proof-of-purchase was eBay gray market purchase, and they worked on the lens with no charge. You're right in that 6ave's "warranty" (or any other grey market warranty) is useless, but at least Canon will help in the first year.
if you buy canon gear outside authorized dealer, its consider gray market camera. Canon can deny warranty.
likely you will get a call after placing the order, and they will try to up selling US version and claim that this will have official canon warranty. its a lie, dont buy into that.
a seller like this on ebay play those tricks very often. I have experience with another seller (dealallyear).
For this one, and they can hold the shipment if you do not agree to upgrade. (this one do not have ebay guarantee deceived by xxx) i have heard story about claiming limited stock and if you pay more, you can get it early etc...

I would say it's pretty ymmv by every reps. If the rep is nice.
Not all the grey market camera are the same and are treated differently most of the time. They can be US products, that were separated. So they are selling a camera which came with a lens as two different products. These are a lot easier to get help with and safer. There are grey market camera which came from a different market like Asia which have a harder time getting services and could be faked.
If you have an Amazon Prime credit card, it is better to buy the brand new one for $1799. Amazon is offering a 15% Cash Back which gets it down to $1529 if you consider the CB.

Canon USA are helpful. But this is extremely ymmv. It can change in the future if more ppl getting gray market camera. You cannot assume those will happen, it's similar to the seller making those claims when up selling. Comments like this are very misleading.
I purchased an 80D from 6th ave on ebay a couple years back and didn't have an issue. I also purchased a SquareTrade warranty with it to be safe.
The advantage of buying a gray market camera is not only the cheaper price (even including a 3 year extended and accidental damage warranty with STrade), but you can also take advantage of Paypal financing plans. Currently they offer 5.99% for 24 months.
When you use the offer that Amazon is currently running you get 15% cash back, you can't stack it with their low or 0% interest rates. It's one or the other. So you get back your 15% cash, but you're also paying high interest rates unless you pay off the $1600 purchase immediately.

Yes, these comments are indeed very misleading and you can't generalize and lump gray market items together. Most especially on Sigma and Tamron equipment as they WILL deny repairing (not just warranty) your equipment if they saw from the serial number that it is a gray market item. I've seen a lens in my local facebook marketplace of a guy trying to sell his expensive 70-200mm f2.8 Tamron with the autofocus not working and selling as is at less than half retail price because tamron will not take his lens for repair. Canon, Nikon and Sony are taken on a case by case basis and will really depend on your stars aligning for honoring your warranty. It will be the same for taking in your lens for a paid repair but at a higher chance when the lens is out of warranty.
I just bought an EOS R from canon for $1524 shipped! All I had to do was give them a serial number from my old camera. They gave me 20% off the listed price of $1799. It also came with the adapter and a 32gb sd card.
