It's more like $250 for the GPU and $150 for the processor but your math definitely still stands
I got that same computer that year, but I was able to snag it for $299.99. Definitely YMMV, but if Walmarts near you have lots of stock that don't sell, they will drop the price. You could try doing layaway today and hope the price drops, but the last day to pickup Walmart layaway is December 9th. This isn't really a computer I need, but I definitely want it. You can upgrade the RAM up to 32GB, which is what I would do if I bought it.

For those who want to know, here [hp.com] are the specifications from HP's website for this motherboard. Here is a link [hp.com] to the product specifications. Finally, here is a link [hp.com] to manuals for this computer, including the upgrading and servicing guide and even what all the parts look like.

For those worried that it would be too hard to upgrade components of this machine, there really isn't anything to worry about. I added an SSD and more RAM to the 580-023w I bought a few years ago and it was a breeze. From what I can tell, this one shouldn't be any harder to upgrade. Happy hunting everyone!

Actually a tower, not a laptop.

Super gud' deal for off the shelf.

The only difference between something like this and a DIY would be overclocking/ mobo/cpu

But that's really not necessary except for hardcore esports players.

THE ONLY thing i would say to check, is if they're using bargain basement 1660ti without heatpipes.

If it's one of those solid aluminum slug variant coolers, be careful on pushing the machine.

If someone is actually gonna use a multithreading app, you will lose ~30% perf on some tasks vs a 12thread cpu, this has hyperthreading disabled. (not relevant for a frag box though, haha) Big Grin

Thanks. What about the CPU? Which one do you suggest between the two?

They seem pretty comparable, honestly. The Ryzen has the edge in a lot of task based stuff but for gaming I'm sure they'll both perform great if that's what you're aiming for.

I know if it were my money I'd definitely get the one with the faster GPU. Also, the RX 580 has pretty high power draw if I remember correctly while a 1660 Ti is pretty efficient -- maybe save a little money on the power bill and get better performance to boot!
