I believe you'd have to buy digital dlc if that was the case...

Yes, the starships, pilots, and weapons that come with the starter pack can all be used as digital assets without using the physical components at all. If you purchase any additional physical components you have to register them with the game by attaching them to the Joycon controller. You can then use those components as digital assets for seven days before needing to register them again.

So say I want to play the game because its $10. But I have no interest in registering the toys. Would I have to rebuy the same content digitally to play? I just dont like the idea of having to preregister every 7 days. I'm surprised that it cant be registered for good like Lego dimensions.

Cause they want to avoid pre-owned sellers eat up their market share for components. Though Game stop had some deals on those few days ago

No. All content in the starter pack is permanently enabled digitally. All you need is the cartridge.

Yes, I tried to indicate that in my message but it may not have come across clearly. I'll break it down.

The starter pack comes with:
Starships:
  • Zenith (digital only)
  • Arwing
Pilots:
  • Mason
  • Fox
Weapons:
  • Shredder (digital only)
  • Flame Thrower
  • Frost Barrage
Without using the physical controller adapter, starships, pilots, or weapons, all of those components are freely usable in the game.

They require the other components to be registered every 7 days so you can't just buy a set and share them around.

Yes. You can buy everything in-game digitally and play without the physical device.
