For the same money, I'd get a refurb'd D750 body. Or for another $100, a new D750, per a couple other current deals.

Decent deal on a still capable older body. When a Sony A7ii body can be had for this same price Currently, I'd rather jump into mirrorless. Yes this includes some extras but it's still an older body that's heavy and more dated technology wise.

I agree. I would compare iso performance on dpreview before jumping on this deal.

FYI, still liked the deal. but...
D610 has older tech so IQ and iso will not be as good as newer APS-C Nikons. would jump to D750 if you are already on the Nikon system.

If buying a new system, please look the other way, such as mirrorless from Sony. I will not invest in DSLR for first time buyers.

i agree with all the others with the sentiment that investing in a NEW dslr these days isn't the best option. there ARE a lot of cheaper dslrs that can be had at good prices used, and that is a good alternative to going mirrorless.

Just a note that the 50mm f/1.8 lens is a really good general purpose lens so I like the fact that it's included with this kit (as opposed to a zoom lens). This kit is great for those who are looking to get serious into photography - well you kinda are if you're buying a full frame DSLR imo.

This is an amazing deal on a camera that's probably way more than the average person really needs. Hell, it's good enough to be many professional photographers 2nd camera.

If you don't need to shoot a ton of high quality video, this camera is solid choice. It's been great in bright and low light situations for me, and an excellent start into the full frame world.

It has a focus motor built in to power older lenses. I'm able to use AF on the great fast focusing professional level Nikkor 2.8 F-stop 80-200mm AF-D lens. I was able to find that lens on eBay for around $300 (it still sells brand new for $1,200 form Nikon.)

The knocks I have on it is that the auto focus is clustered in the DX crop of the viewfinder and that quality full frame lenses cost a pretty penny.

Can you go for a D750? Sure. But at that point why not go for a D810 or a mirrorless? The top rung of the ladder isn't needed for everyone.

D750 is way better. Was $999 plus 20% back in points at Rakuten from an authorized seller

the other her day I had my Nikon out and wanted to get a shot with flare, I looked through the viewfinder trying not go blind took the shot tryin not to miss the moment. There was ghosting across the subjects face instead, but it was too late to get the moment back

thats why my Mirrorless stay on my hip

Since the new Nikon line Z has come, all the old Nikon D models are out of the date.

Why buy a camera with a mirror. I do not understand the purpose? Only a huge drawback. Heavy, heavy lenses, complicated mechanics, poor video performance etc
