First off, this is a great deal, but there are some caveats.

TP link support is entirely in Chinese (they speak English but they are all Chinese and very hard to understand.) If something is wrong you are required to pay postage to TP link even within the first 30 days.

They can take forever to get a replacement. I had a AD7200 Talon go bad and it took 4 months to get a replacement.

Their firmware leaves quite a bit to be desired. You should read up on the reviews before pulling the trigger.

second this. do you have to replace your current router? I have a dlink AC3200, but it doesnt reach my back yard, but if I have to replace my current router, thinking this will be a downgrade on performance in the house.

You don't need to replace existing you can just buy the extenders. Run existing as master and new as mesh

I think the answer is "No", but the M3 doesn't use powerline does it?

Update: The Deco M3 3-Pack includes one Deco M3 Mesh WiFi base station (router) and two Deco M3W Wall Mesh Extenders to ensure seamless WiFi coverage up to 4,500 square feet. The Deco M3 does not utilize Powerline connectivity.

thank you for the reply. but wouldnt that mean I had 2 networks? the current and the newly extended one? I dont like that. Want to use them like AP's, but as a mesh. I've always had issues getting AP's configured right too, and when I use my old router as an ap, it downgrades the network

I used to use a powerline adapter, but my speeds at the remote end were severely slower (by about 8-10 times). I think speeds over powerline are very YMMV. In my situation, powerline was not so great. I now have a mesh system installed (Deco M5) and have been extremely happy with the results... I know your question is about a wifi extender, but I feel like results with a mesh system would somewhat comparable.

Could I use this for my parents to get WiFi across their house. They have a horrible time getting wifi on the far side of the house because of the concrete walls.

it looks like the m5 system has gigabit ethernet connections while m3 has 10/100 hardwire connections speed.

m5 slightly faster on 2.4ghz but same on 5ghz.

both have dedicated backhaul, and smart hub capability

m5 seems to have better/included: parental control, antivirus, speed test (for qos), better QOS(?) and some kind of "homecare". i have a combination of P7s and m9 at my primary house and one work location. and m5's at one work location and orbi's at an apartment. For the most part, with light loads, they're all the same. But the M9 and orbis definitely have some neat features for mgmt that are very welcome as a parent and employer. they will notify you when new equipment comes online etc...
