Within the past 6 months, I've purchased a Fire HD 8 (2020) and a Kindle Paperwhite. Both were listed at Grade C. Both of them came in generic type packaging with a charger. They looked and functioned like new. Not a single blemish on the screens or bodies.
Small sample size I know, but I'm satisfied with the conditions.

Not sure if it's just me, but it looks like the Paperwhite (2021) link points to an expired sale page from April. I do see there's a new link:

That just seems wrong charging e-waste on used items.

The person who traded-in that Kindle already paid the e-waste fee for that device when he bought it new.

Not worth it for the 2018 version of the HD8 IMO. Maybe for the 2020 or newer but 7 years old is a pretty long time for tablets that typically launch with older processors and storage anyways.

They also paid sales tax, but here you are paying more again on the same product.

My old Kindle Fire has been decent as a manga reader. Even with minimal stuff installed it's fairly laggy when doing anything other than clicking between pages, though.

I haven't had much luck with Refurbished Amazon products regardless of the grade after a few months it starts slowing down to dial-up speed.

These fire tablets are really showing their age. I swear each time the software updates it gets slower. Mine was almost unusable.
