Once you are connected with the agent simply state "I am wanting to see if I qualify for the iPhone XR 64 GB for $149 with a 2 year commitment"
If you are an AARP member or have an employer FAN the upgrade fee should be waived.
Optionally you can call AT&T and ask to speak to someone in the loyalty department and ask for the same deal but they do have high call volume for Christmas so you might be on hold for a bit.
You need to be on a current Unlimited plan or switch to one of the unlimited plans to get this offer which will result in the $40 line access fee. If you are already on an unlimited plan then your plan will not change but you can verify that with the AT&T rep.

If your on unlimited plan your in safe zone so these phone offers will be perfect for you . This will be an issue for most to all shared plan customers ( except the designated shared plan )
Hope that clears your confusion but for being extra safe just confirm with the agent one last time and better do these deals via chat after login in to your acc .
Thanks. We've been screwed before on these types of deals.
We were supposed to get a BOGO after adding a line last year, but they completely screwed it up and there was an extra line on our account and when they cancelled that one they also cancelled our BOGO bill credits. Took months and we still didn't get the full amount back. So really weary of any att deals.

BOGO is always complex unless you take a new line and cancel an old one line . So never do a BOGO unless a new line . Take these loyalty deals you will be fine as ur in unlimited and don't
Take BOGO unless your willing to change one of the no to new 😊. Every deal has a catch until u deal it carefully 😊 ...

We added a new line to our family plan, no canceling. They added two new lines and the one they cancelled had the BOGO credits attached to it. We only wanted one new line.

Yea for BOGO they should have added only one new line and not two . It's a pain in the wrong place to deal with customer service with lot many calls to rectify it .
So after reading a bunch of the posts here I'm still confused.
So I have an unlimited plan, 6 lines, retiree discount and 3 phones are on att next. We get the free unlimited since we have uverse.
If I do this on one of the other lines on the account would it affect my plan prices?
If your unlimited plan is one from the past few years (2017-2019) you most likely will be fine if you can replicate this deal.
If its an older unlimited plan or capped plan, you should find the fine print and read if your line fees go up with a two year contract.
The jump in access fees is based on the plan terms, not the $450 off deal. The newer plans don't have an access fee hikes, while older plans (from the days of promoted 2-year contracts and discounted phones) most likely do...
So, now that everyone has a new phone, what's the best protection plan these days?
A good case and a glass screen protector is the best device protection for most to all customers and other device protection plans are just overrated and money pits .

I did this deal via the Loyalty Dept on Xmas eve in hopes of squeezing in a last minute XR phone for the parent. It took three different agents before I landed the right one. I teed up each call by mentioning I had a sweet offer to switch to Verizon which would be hard to turn down. FYI, I think the specifics are key here so they understand why you would switch so I used one of the very popular deals here on SD for comparison.
The first guy (call center was likely South Asia) tried to run me in circles with multiple and more expensive offers that didn't include this $149 deal. It took about 30 minutes before he finally cut to the chase and told me I could only get the phone for $149 if I upgraded to unlimited as many have indicated here. He confirmed my access rate would increase. The difference would have been fairly negligible per the math since my current 20GB three line shared plan netted out almost evenly with the unlimited. However, I was still reluctant to give up my business discount so it was a pass.
Called back and spoke to a second agent - also in South Asia. She flat out told me there were no offers at all on the XR or the unlimited plans at all so that was a quick hang up.
Tried a third time and got someone in their Latin America division. Without any hesitation he told me there was an offer for the $149 XR. I kept it brief. Told him, I didn't want to lose my shared plan. I didn't want to lose my business discount and I didn't want to see my access fees increased. I also wanted the upgrade fee waived. If either of those things happened, I would walk from ATT. Shockingly he said he could do all those things provided I sign on for a two year commitment only on that one line I was upgrading. I asked if I could get that in writing & he relayed back the notes he was putting in the system reflecting that agreement. I hope I didn't get hoodwinked but I also received two subsequent Customer Service Summaries from ATT confirming the plan would stay the same with all the current features. I did see my nat'l discount was still applicable.
So in other words...TLDR, I was able to get the $149 XR and keep my existing plan without upgrading to unlimited. FAN discount still applies. I'll obviously confirm when I receive the bill but the parent was thrilled to finally get a long desired upgraded phone.
So I did the same deal you did on a Mobile Share 35GB plan with FAN discount. $149 iPhone XR. Was told there would be no change to my plan and they would waive the upgrade fee. Lo and behold, I just checked my bill and I have a $45 Upgrade Fee charge and the line that got the upgrade had its Access Fee increase by $25. I'll be calling in this week to ask them what happened. It is like a "Bait and Switch" tactic. Hopefully they can work something out. You just have to be nice, patient and play dumb when you call.

Just straight up fact they will do nothing as the system can not permit even the supervisor to do it so either change it to unlimited plan or pay the price . But yes they will wave off upgrade fee. And yes you and all where warned that mobile shared plan Will go up all discounts will be wiped off if you take the phone deal without changing the plan. Lot of customers suffered fir last 2.5 months and last few years also in same shared plan issue so be prepared for long hrs of disappointing calls 👍🏻
And play dump and patience is a good tactics but in this issues they will also use the same tactics back to you 😊

That line upgrade fee is likely written into your plan, if you've had it since the good ol' days of cheap 2-year subsidized phone agreements. This deal triggers those old plan line-upgrade fees.
This usually isn't an issue with recent unlimited plans / recent mobile-share plans introduced after the subsidized phone agreement went away ( in favor of installments).
I have 4 lines with these bloodsuckers, been with them since before Cingular, Ultimate plan for a couple of years. Called today and guy in the US offers me 2 XRs, $5 a month each for 30 months, no new lines, waived activation fees.
They send me authorization agreement, it shows $20 per month per line and only one activation fee waived. I'm not approving that so I call back and a US female tells me he shouldn't have offered that and shouldn't have offered to waive activation.
I'm 4 ATT lines and DirecTv, and I've never called either one without spiking my bp.
