This deal has been active since Friday but I still don't see it posted and it seems really slick to me. Comes to $3.33/bulb.

2700k temperature, 650 lumens, 5/6" retro-fit.

Note: as has been pointed out in comments, the "85 watt equivalent" appears to be a mistake. The product box itself does not mention this, but does confirm the 650 lumens, so these are more like 60w equivalent.

Wow, still over 140 on the shelf at the (smaller) store near me. Apparently they can't hardly give these things away. And no wonder; consumes the same power as some 100w-equivalent LED bulbs but provides the light of only a 65w-equivalent.

Some products should not leave the factory -- should not even be mass-produced. This is a great example. Any savings on the purchase price will be eaten up and greatly surpassed by higher energy costs over time (assuming at least one extra is installed to compensate for the lower light output).

Go directly to recycle. Do not install. Do not even buy. Even when the price is lowered to $0.

Yes. I have a 75 watt equivalent (925 lumens) right next to on of these... and guess what... the utilitech "85 watt" is much less bright. They are going back tomorrow. This was a lie and a farce. These are 65 watt equivalent. Period.
These are LED...

Very good deal, except it is warm white (2700K color temp.).

Though these are warm, I've got an older version of these (same temp, 700lm) in my kitchen and I find them nice and bright and easy to see by. We do have warmer wood tones so it fits the style (probably not a good idea in a more modern room), but these aren't dim (though, as has been pointed out below, closer to 60w equiv than 85w).

85 watt equivalent and only 650 lumens? Something is off with this.

Probably a low CRI as well. In the consumer market, we're just catching on to the importance of CRI, where in commercial lighting design it's been a determining factor for a while now. As more and more consumers are demanding better quality light, these low CRI lights will be liquidated in favor of the higher CRI lights. My advice is pay the premium now for high CRI or wait til the 4 or 6 pack LED flood lights go on sale for $0.75 a piece.

What 100w-equivalent LED bulbs only draw 10.5w, and how much are they? 10.5w may not be industry-leading for this brightness, but it's not that crazy (for a comparison, here's a comparable Cree model [homedepot-static.com]).

FWIW, I have some older Utilitech Pro downlights like these which are still going strong in my kitchen after several years. Those are 700 lumens and draw 13w. I have no complaints with their light output or coloration (they were actually a significant upgrade in brightness over the ageing 60w incandescents they replaced, and seemed a bit cooler in comparison). These are at least more efficient than those, and at a little over $3/ea, I can live with a bit more power consumption over time in exchange for a much lower up-front outlay.
