This is a great deal, but I've had more than a few friends complain about the build quality of HP laptops, especially with the hinges and the panels/frames surrounding them. And given this thing's almost-central hinge design...

I have the HP Omen X 2S, which is very similar to this one, and it's fine thus far. Traveled quite a bit with it as well as using it nonstop as my daily workhorse (software developer).

One thing I'll say is, their Risk Free Care Pack Program means you'll get the full purchase price of your "Care Pack" back if you dont end up using it. Nobody else offers that, as far as I'm aware.

My 3 year w/Accidental Damage cost $275 to add on at the time of purchase. I've had it since July now, so far no problems. If it makes it until July 2022 then I'll get that $275 back. If it breaks, I know it'll be fixed regardless if it was my fault or not.

What is the risk free care pack program?

HP.com offers a risk free care pack option when an eligible 3-year care pack plan is purchased with select consumer PCs. The PC cannot be older than 1 year at the time of Care Pack purchase.
Once your care pack coverage has ended, you have 90 days to submit the rebate claim to HP. The eligible product must not have had a service event from the purchase date of the care pack until the end of the care pack coverage period.
Phone support or chat support will not invalidate the rebate.
You will need to print out the rebate form at time of purchase. Ensure you keep your receipt and at the end of the care pack term, you can submit your rebate form and the receipt to receive a refund.
Rebate forms need to be emailed to [email protected]
Upon meeting program requirements, you will receive a rebate check within 6-8 weeks from the time the claim is received.

I'd be more concerned about the 9880H running extremely hot, especially with the RTX 2080.

For that reason, when I did mine, I got the 9750H and the RTX 2070. My temps, running 2 external monitors as well as the built in, are 50C avg GPU and 70C avg CPU. Obviously when gaming those go up, but nowhere near what they'd be with the 9880H and RTX 2080 combo. Laptops just cannot cool those efficiently.

No I dont, when I travel I hook it up to the hotel room tv if needed but otherwise just use the single monitor when away from my work desk.

I bought the same laptop for $2k about 10 days ago ( has not been delivered )

Apparently they price match within the return window but we'll see how smoothly that goes.

A lot of people dual monitor in their home office and work office. Laptops are portable workstations.

Not seeing anything about G-Sync on the display. Only Max-Q where you are putting G-Sync.

I am going to jump on this. I just confirmed with tech support that it is the 2080 full laptop and not the max Q

Flash your VBIOS to increase the power limits on the 2080:

Been a little while since I priced laptops, but why are the 17" versions SOOOO much more than the 15" with almost the same specs. Looks like the 15t is about $500 on sale vs $1750!! Any one know why this is SO extreme? Confused
