I've got the smaller one, and that thing is great! Last weekend while at Lowe's I was looking at this for $139, but just the bare tool. This is a steal!

I looked on BF and only saw a bare tool for $140. They knocked it down from $190, but not low enough for me to bite.

That's alright man. I did more research and decided to wait for a deal for Ridgid, similar torque and price and lifetime warranty even for batteries

Ridgid's lifetime service agreement is different then a warranty, and is probably less then what you are expecting. Den of Tools has a YouTube video up that talks about it.

Also, I don't see break away torque as being shady marketing, knowing that I have a battery operated impact gun that will bust all the nuts is all that I really need. I don't have any need to ever impact something to anywhere near what the break away torque number is, and I find myself being extra cautious using the large impact for anything other then but busting. I feel a lot more comfortable using my smaller impact and a torque wrench for tightening.

Earlier this year I bought the Earthquake 1/2in and love it, but if I had a chance to grab the Kobalt at this price I would have went this route for sure. The EQ is more powerful, but this thing will eat as well.

A little FYI: The Ridgid 1/2" Octane impact wrench has four settings including an auto mode for tightening nuts and bolts which stops at a certain resistance and prevents over-torquing. It's a great feature and a great impact wrench. I've done tons of suspension work with mine, as well as changed a couple wheel bearings and axles. The thing is a beast.

I'm not going to watch a half hour video to see what an animated bear says, but maybe you could tell us what is the functional difference for a typical homeowner between a warranty and the Ridgid LSA? Plenty of us have gotten tools repaired and batteries replaced under the LSA, so why does the distinction matter?

I bought this over 2 years ago and am a self proclaimed fan boy of the 24v tools. batteries are cheap and tools perform extremely well IMO.

Brushless is the only way to go.

When it comes to LSA YMMV, lots of mixed reviews. Personally I think it's shady marketing since the expectation is that you are getting a lifetime warranty and that it will work like other tool lifetime warranties work when in fact it's more nuanced then that. By all accounts Ridgid makes great tools, and their Octane line is impressive.... But I wouldn't necessarily view their warranty as being Superior to competing brands.
